Le valli che lo circondano sono ricche di conche profondamente modellate dall'ultima glaciazione . Nella parte alta della Valmasque , confinante con la Valle delle Meraviglie attraverso l' omonima bassa e situata a nord e a ovest di Fontanalba , si trova una successione di tre splendidi laghetti alpini , il lac du Basto , il lac Noir ed il lac Vert .
