I costumi tradizionali sardi costituiscono uno degli elementi più tipici del folklore sardo che colpisce per la varietà, la ricchezza e la bellezza. Gli abiti tradizionali sardi vengono indossati in occasione delle feste popolari e delle principali feste religiose, come quella di Sant'Efisio a Cagliari, la Cavalcata Sarda di Sassari e il Redentore a Nuoro ma si possono ammirare importanti raccolte di abiti tradizionali nei diversi musei etnografici della Sardegna.Da I costumi sardi sono particolarmente elaborati e variopinti: colorati e sgargianti quelli delle donne, più severi quelli degli uomini. Costume tradizionale femminile Il costume tradizionale femminile è sontuoso, ricco, colorato e vario. Come copricapo vengono usati fazzoletti piegati a triangolo, cuffie, scialli o mantelli: i colori, i ricami, e perfino il modo di fermarli sul capo sono diversi da zona a zona. Il petto è coperto da una camicia (camisa, camija) di colore bianco, in lino o cotone: generalmente ampia, ornata con pizzi o ricami soprattutto nella parte anteriore e nelle maniche; lo scollo (di diversa ampiezza) è spesso incorniciato dal pizzo e arricchito da bottoni d'argento o d'oro. Sopra la camicia è indossato un corpetto (palas, imbustu, cossu) ricamato, che può essere costituito da un busto (soprattutto nel nord della Sardegna), da un vero e proprio gilet, con diversi tipi di spalline, o da semplici strisce di stoffa, che sul davanti fasciano il corpo sotto il seno, sostenute da spalline fini. Il giubbetto (tzippone, corittu), di lunghezza variabile, è in stoffa pregiata; le maniche possono essere ampie, aperte lungo l'avambraccio in modo da far vedere la camicia, oppure strette e corte. La gonna (tunica, fardetta, munnedda, saucciu) è lunga e generalmente ampia, in orbace o in altri tessuti, spesso ornata sul bordo da nastri colorati e dorati. La gonna è spesso coperta dal grembiule (franda, pannellu, antalena, farda), che può essere realizzato con tessuti pregiati, come seta e orbace, o tessuti di uso comune. Infine le calze, in filo di cotone bianco, variopinto o scuro in relazione all'età, alle zone, e all'occasione di utilizzo, sono indossate sia con scarpette sia con stivaletti e scarponi chiodati.
