Situata a nord di Montisola, l'isola di Loreto è stata in passato luogo d'incontro di pescatori, mercanti e pellegrini che raggiungevano il leggendario convento femminile e il santuario a esso annesso. A causa della scarsità di documenti a riguardo, la storia dell'isola rimane quasi del tutto sconosciuto fino al 1910, anno in cui il cavaliere Vincenzo Richieri decise di erigere un castello in stile neogotico, oggi dimora privata.
