Sul colle di Biumo Superiore, affacciata sulla città di Varese, sorge Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza che prende i nomi dai suoi vari possessori nei secoli. Costruita originariamente secondo lo schema barocco, con corte d'onore verso l'esterno, la ristrutturazione più importante risale al XVIII secolo ad opera del Marchese Paolo Menafoglio, stimato banchiere dell'epoca che fece ampliare la villa e invertire il cortile verso il parco di 33000 mq. Nel 1823, in piena epoca napoleonica la villa passò al duca Pompeo Litta Visconti Arese, membro di una rinomata famiglia aristocratica milanese che fece ampliare la villa con la costruzione di un salone di rappresentanza e un'ala per scuderie e rimessaggio delle carrozze. I lavori vennero supervisionati da Luigi Canonica. Contemporaneamente a questa ristrutturazione venne ridisegnato anche lo spazio del parco con realizzazione di un giardino all'inglese con spazi a verde, un laghetto e una collina con una grotta (ora chiusa) destinata a ghiacciaia, pratica diffusa all'epoca nelle dimore nobiliari. Nel 1935 dopo anni di decadimento la villa venne acquistata da Ernesto Panza che fece realizzare ulteriori lavori per la realizzazione di un cortiletto verso la piazzetta esterna e una modifica dei giardini, alla sua morte la proprietà passò ai quattro figli e utilizzata principalmente dal figlio Giuseppe, che la abitò per alcuni anni allestendo un'importante collezione di arte contemporanea, oggi in parte ancora presente e in parte distribuita in altri musei. Dal 1966 la villa e la collezione d'arte sono proprietà del FAI a cui Giuseppe Panza le ha donate.

Interestingly, the caption, I think that gives that something extra to a landscape photo of this type! I really like the pdr with the fountain (unfortunately off) which gives on the avenue and then the villa! From my point of view I would raise a few shadows or show in general, but it's just my personal idea! The photo itself is beautiful and well defined!
