La Zerynthia polyxena ha ali di colore giallo con numerose nervature e disegni trasversali neri. Sull'area submarginale sono presenti caratteristici disegni a zig zag, mentre sulle ali posdticali ci sono macchie rosse a forma di semiluna. Le ali sono simili per entrambi i sessi, con la femmina in genere più grande. GENERAZIONI: univoltina, sfarfallamenti tra la fine di marzo e l'inizio di maggio. HABITAT: prati e ambienti aperti di vario genere. STATUS: molto localizzata. SPECIE PROTETTA A LIVELLO EUROPEO.
