Very nice arrangement and assortment of colours and congratulations on your new lens purchase! Was it new or secondhand?

Thanks very much, Tim! I bought it new. So far, I am loving it! More than the 35mm.

It can be a very useful little lens (focal length wise on DX) especially when your main zoom is probably at f5 maximum aperture at 50mm! And the best value prime in this f1.8 guise. Did you get it from Castle C's?

I contemplated the f1.4 but it is significantly more expensive (and, presumably, significantly better - although I think it is maybe best suited to FX)
No - I bought it on line from Wex on Black Friday. I don't think it was on offer itself but they gave me a UV filter at a very good price to go with it.

I have the older 'D' f1.4 for years (since film days) and have been wanting to upgrade to the newer 'G', which is supposed to be better at wider apertures. But it is expensive and in your case I wouldn't say that the 1/2 stop is worth 3x the price over the f1.8; a situation similar with the 85mm G f1.8 I have, you get 90% of the lens for one third of the price of the f1.4.

At normal apertures there would be no difference in quality between the two (either 85 or 50) so unless you have plenty of cash, or it was your primary lens, the slower one is the obvious choice.

Yes, I'd seen that you have that lens. I reached the same conclusion for my needs at the moment.

If I recall (vaguely) that you have extension tubes - the 50 prime is an excellent way to try these out and can reach extreme macro (many times life size) - something to try out on these dark dull days. Much easier to handle and use than the big Sigma macro plus tubes (which would work too, possibly with even bigger magnifications). Tripod essential though.

Thanks! That's a good idea - they are currently lying dormant. Something to try in January when life quietens down a bit.

That's a few entries on that other site sorted, then!

I'm finding the other site a bit difficult sometimes these days because I have to post an image before I've really had chance to look through my images and process them properly and then I regret my choice. Like yesterday's image, for instance. Given more time, I would probably have posted the 'Windswept' image that I have just posted here. I know that if I don't post on the day or very soon after, it just won't happen and I don't want gaps because, once made, gaps easily get bigger.

Yes, that would have been a much better image and a definite Fave from me.

And yes too; if you leave it for much more than 24 hours, I think that it'll either not appear in most popular or way down, due to how it's all worked out and calculated (time spent multiplied by hearts by views etc)
