Advice welcome, or feel free to just say what you do or don't like! I took this photo outside in a garden against a background of mostly green foliage. I wanted to isolate the flowers from the background in post processing but didn't really know how best to achieve it. I very much enjoyed adjusting exposure, adding radial filters and using the cloning tool to achieve this end result. I quite like the image I have created but feel sure there must be better ways.......

The tool that allows you to cover with a color mask wanted (black) around the contour of the flower, then apply with a copy of the background layer and darkens everything else in Italian called "pen" (pen) except for the flower remains masked .. so long the work is just surround the flower with the "pen" tool (pen) the rest is a snap! But your method of working has given more or less a nice soft shade of light around the flower, although perhaps it has slightly changed the original colors. What can I say? Also try with the "pen" tool (pen) and then choose for better or creatively combine various ways of doing. Hello. :-P :-P

Thank you so much for your most helpful comment, Micio! I have not worked with masks before but I will investigate how to apply them in the processing software I use. The original colours have altered using my method - they are deeper and richer - but I found them pleasing, so didn't try to revert to the true colours.

Thanks, again! Sorriso

Ann. :))

Ann! Out of curiosity you use the program? I Have tried many, even if superficially .. more thoroughly only Corel Paintshop that the Pen tool (pen) .. I know that I also have the Adobe Photoshop which is the most common, but maybe yours is a program different .. however the result you've got is very appealing .. Hello. :-P

I use two programs - Lightroom and Photoshop Elements - I am not familiar with Corel Paintshop. I imagine they all have similar tools. You are most kind!

I take this opportunity to ask you, if you do not lose too much time at this time of night .. if Elements has the ability to work on multiple layers of the same image .. I had an old version without the layers, but perhaps now were added? Thanks in advance for your courtesy .. :-) :-)

Yes, there is the facility to use different layers, that can be turned on and off, but I am not really in the habit of using them. I know I ought to..... Sorriso I don't have the most recent version - mine is Elements 11

Good morning Ann, although the laborious method used gave a good result, that's what counts, congratulations 8-)

Hello Ann,
I really like the colours and the isolation of the flower.
The depth of field is very narrow ! I think I would have chosen a smaller aperture to get a deeper DOF.
But maybe you couldn't afford a longer exposure ? Was it windy ?
Jean -Pierre
