Ammirare un dipinto nella migliore condizione di luce e distanza, in modo da coglierne anche i minimi dettagli. Su questo principio è fondata la ricchissima esposizione di capolavori della Galleria Sabauda, nella sua recente collocazione nella Manica Nuova di Palazzo Reale. Le più evolute tecnologie per la gestione e conservazione dei dipinti permettono di osservare da vicino i capolavori di alcuni dei maggiori pittori italiani ed europei come Beato Angelico, Andrea Mantegna, Rembrandt, Rubens, Tintoretto, Van Dyck, Van Eyck e Veronese. La Galleria si estende oggi su quattro piani. I primi tre piani, dal basso verso l'alto, obbediscono a un percorso cronologico, in cui le opere del Piemonte dialogano con altre realizzate nel resto della Penisola e dell'intero continente. Torino ? Europa, dunque. L'ultimo piano, nello spettacolare sottotetto, è riservato agli uffici, al gabinetto di restauro e alla collezione di Riccardo Gualino, messa a confronto con le opere dei Sei di Torino.
