La frazione Roldo di Montecrestese si affaccia verso sud su una roccia appena sporgente, ben levigata dall'antico ghiacciaio, a picco sulla sottostante piana di Domodossola: al suo interno il Tempietto Lepontico, a forma di piccola torre, è un unicum su tutto l'arco alpino. Si tratta di una memoria in pietra risalente all'epoca romana, edificata in origine con scopo culturale e religioso: gli abitanti di Montecrestese la chiamano semplicemente “Torre di Roldo” o anche “Torre dei Picchi”. Secondo la tradizione locale, i Picchi sarebbero stati briganti a cui pare appartenessero alcune case forti e torri, come quella di Veglio, che costituivano i loro luoghi di rifugio. Il Tempietto Lepontico di Roldo, suddiviso in due vani, una cella e un piccolo atrio, è databile intorno al I secolo d.C. e nacque per il culto pagano. La torre è stata edificata alzando una precedente costruzione, della quale non fu eliminato il tetto in pesanti piode, che oggi è ancora visibile lungo la facciata.
