L'eclissi totale maggiore è stata visibile nel mare del Nord nei pressi delle isole F?r Øer. L'eclissi parziale è stata Visibile in tutta Europa, oltre che nell'Africa occidentale e del nord, in Medioriente, in Russia e Kazakistan. In Italia ha avuto un'oscurità (frazione del Sole oscurato) variabile da un minimo del 40% sino ad un massimo del 70% (in base alla località). In Sicilia l'evento astronomico ha avuto inizio intorno alle 9:20 (UTC+1) ed è terminato intorno alle 11:40 (UTC+1), con fase di massima copertura del disco solare intorno alle ore 10:30 (UTC+1) ed oscurità di circa il 45%.
Un evento analogo si era verificato nel 2006 e la sua totalità era stata raggiunta in Egitto. La prossima con percentuali di oscurità così elevate sarà visibile in italia soltanto nel 2026.
