Hello All
I just picked up a new 100-400 ISII Lens & *2 III Converter and the Auto Focus did work. But not it dont. I cant believe this is not working, i took it back and was told that they are not compatible and Auto Focus does not work... I need to decide if i upgrade body firmware (reluctant to do this) or stick with auto focus or return it.

Is this right, is auto focus disabled, is there anything that can be done?
Thanks
Charlie

The 100-400mm IS II is not compatible with the 2x converter, only the 1.4x converter. You will not get AF with the 2x converter attached, but you can still use MF. I use the 1.4x Canon III with my 100-400 IS II on a 5D3 with great results. If you need further reach you will need to look for a faster lens like the 500mm f4 , 300mm 2.8 or similar. Not sure what body you use, but the crop bodies like a 7D MKII will give you 400x1.4x1.6 = 896mm with that lens. I would think this is plenty.

Happy shooting!

The 100-400 at 400 has a f/5.6 aperture, with the 2x it becomes f/11... no Canon camera can focus at f/11, not even the 1 series camera (the limit for the 1DX is f/8).

Other than, I don't recommend a 2x teleconverter on a zoom lens, you need a super sharp prime lens to get the best results from a 2x.
