Pros: lack of distortion, satisfactory optical rendering, superb mechanical construction.

Cons: manual focus, price.

Opinion: I've been buying this lens for months and I use it mainly for 360 ° panoramic and virtual tours. First I used the 15 mm fisheye of the Sigma or the nikon 14-24 but the results were modest due to the poor quality of the fisheye and the deformations that produced the Nikon. I did comparative tests with the Nikon set to 14 and I have to say that this is superior to Laowa with regard to the engraving and the brilliance of the images. The Laowa has a hot dominant unlike the nikon that is cold. If I were to use a landscaping goal, for a generic purpose or for a trip I would recommend zooming Nikon for its versatility and quality. I repeat instead that the 12 has solved my problems for the specific use for which I have purchased it and I usually limit it to this use.

Pros: Weight, compactness, angle of field, construction, filterability, minimum distortion

Cons: Cost

Opinion: I have the objective for about a month and are literally excited about it. I have been practicing landscape photography for about 25 years and have several specialist lenses but no one with such a wide field angle ... a 12mm that does not distort is really an optician you do not expect ... I got to test it in Iceland together to a dedicated filter holder of the Landscape Specialist and I have to say that it has turned out to be a great glass, even in extreme light conditions it kept well, very little if there is no flare in backlight, from f4 up also sharply to the edges. In the past, I have always owned the 15 f4 macro of Laowa and at a constructive level this is really done on another level, it's really solid, the ring is fluid and has no play. I add that Laowa really did a great job by inserting the nodal point on the barrel and matching the infinity exactly with the limestone of the ring ... the nocturnal thank you. After a few months of use I noticed that the white front prints, using filters with the appropriate mounts may reflect on the sky, I've overcome the problem with a special thick ring of just 0.3mm overlapping the writing, if someone wanted more information contact me privately. I forgot I bought it at RCE in Vicenza, which is an official reseller and provides two years warranty.

Pros: Compactness, little distortion, Plate filters alone 100mm (with holder), f2.8 aperture, very good sharpness in the center.

Cons: Flare in backlit, built in metal improved but not yet to competitive levels, discreet coma defect in the corners at full aperture. No confirmation chip.

Opinion: unique on the market allows optical unusual compositions and really wide shots of fullframe, being one retro focus optical design produces flare in backlit that the final production version should solve in part. The prototype I tested was comfortable and light to handle and transport, and the overall yield was not disappointed though perfectible at different points but building better than previous optical laowa without reaching the Zeiss quality for example. also used freehand not disappoint thanks to the opening f2.8, but unfortunately this is the confirmation chip.
