sent on March 12, 2021 Pros: Sharpening even at full opening, speed af, construction Cons: It's a little heavy, expensive, but otherwise nothing to report Opinion: I have this optics in evidence for a short time but it is giving me excellent satisfaction. The autofocus is quiet and precise (even with eyeAF it does not miss a beat), very sharp even at full opening, between f/2.8 and f/5.6 is simply incredible. The construction is very good, the sense of solidity is there. The color rendering for my taste is very good. Personally I don't find faults (maybe it's a bit heavy, but used on Sony FF bodies is well balanced) except the price of the new maybe, like most Sony lenses. |
sent on July 06, 2020 Pros: Light, sharp, fast Cons: Perhaps the price, chromatic rendering not always convincing Opinion: It is an excellent lens in all respects. Sharp already at full opening, it has no particular optical defects, at least my specimen. The focus is very fast and the presence of the customizable button I find it a great plus. The body is light but gives a sense of solidity, I think the materials with which it is made (paraluce aside), are very good. Only small mole, maybe the price a little high, but surely, given the excellent yield, we soon forget about the outlay. I noticed then in some situations, a color rendering not really optimal, solvable in post production, but sometimes I find it a cold hair. |
sent on July 06, 2020 Pros: Small, light, very fast, crisp already at 1.8, relatively cheap Cons: as far as I'm concerned, no one Opinion: I think the list of pros and cons already says everything :) I was pleasantly surprised by the sharpness at 1.8 (I use it on R4) and the speed of focus in both afs and afc; even with the chase and focus on the eyes is pretty much perfect. If you like the focal point and don't need and/or want to carry the 1.4 bricks behind you, that's the lens for you |
sent on April 26, 2020 Pros: Light, balanced, no optical defects, sharp enough at 1.8, af precise, few or no chromatic aberrations. Feeling safe during the shoot Cons: Color rendering a bit flat, sharpness at 1.8 not excellent but still good, expensive for what it offers. Kind of like Sony optics are painted aluminum, so in a few years I'm imagining it scratched. Scratch-sensitive lampshade because it is not painted Opinion: A good lens that does what you'd expect from an 85mm. I use it for wedding photo reportage and some close up portraits and I have no valid reason to keep looking around. Af video great. The hairs in the egg that I can find: Bokeh good but nothing special, af photo precise but out of 10 photos a couple can get it wrong (and there it is), cold colors and complexions tending to brown, but you know that sony glasses are so for the most part... (I like the warm colors of canons and samyangs so they're biased) I didn't find any problems with flares. It would cost 400 euros (street price) would be better. The equivalent ef canon after 20 years still has much to say if compared to this one. |
sent on February 06, 2020 Pros: Maf perfect and fast. Customizable button. Footprint Cons: Maybe price a little high Opinion: I was undecided between this and other brands, in the end sony mom never denies it. Good robustness and weight and non-excessive footprint. I recommend it for those looking for a good lens 85 mm bright with good quality/price. The other 85mm f 1.4 according to my parry has too high a cost for what it offers more than this with diaphragm 1.8 |
sent on December 03, 2019 Pros: Very sharp goal, good microcontrast, customizable key and great autofocus Cons: At the moment no one Opinion: I just made the switch from Nikon to Sony and today the first release of the small A7 III with the 85 mm f/1.8. I took a few shots and I have to recognize its speed in focus, the sharpness of the images, and the colors that even if criticized by someone, personally, I find them well balanced and natural. The machine is very well balanced. |
sent on November 16, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, blurred, MF/AF switch, customizable key, materials, autofocus Cons: Blurred light points towards the edges tend not to be very circular Opinion: There's not much to say, so much sharpness and excellent autofocus. At TA already has a good yield (in my opinion). It gives a feeling of solidity, the blur is very pleasant, too bad it lose a bit on the light points as you approach the edge of the frame (acceptable compromise considering the price of alternatives). Autofocus on the eye really fast, reliable, and accurate. I really appreciate the presence of the mechanical keys on the barrel, although I would have preferred it not to be focus by wire. |
sent on November 03, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, lightness, materials, price Cons: I don't know Opinion: This lens amazed me, despite having read the flattering evidence of some sites, about sharpness. Another positive note is the lightness. Considering that it is a lens for full frame I would have expected a greater weight. I also like the colors, quite natural and also the blurred is very pleasant. I think I'll soon match it to the 35mm little brother I've already tried and convinced me. |
sent on October 12, 2019 Pros: Compact, fairly solid, autofocus, non-challenging, great color, better quality of pariclass of other brands, light, excellent resolution, advantageous cost. Cons: Macrocontrast and pure resolve still a little lower than the best tele manual focus in history, lacks the scale of fire distances (but I use it because autofocus...) Opinion: I purchased it for current use in autofocus for events, street photos, technical documentation with Sony FF and APS. I have many other esthedic and special lenses in similar focals, I needed a good quick autofocus for each day. Surprising performance for an autofocus even close to TA, medium-high macrocontrast, suitable for many shots, but a little less than the classic Zeiss, Nikon and Voigtlander manual, brighter. Excellent solvency, comparable even to more ephaly ephaly escheated objects, better than AF for reflex for sure. Image of the point less dry and more tormented than the very fine top manuals that I have, with strong details, fine but just fattened. Microcontrast good, but not from "Sigma Art". Excellent color yield and bokeh, easy to use, zero distortion. A bit of TA flare, evident against just closed f/1.4 classics. It seems to me a perfect lens for its use and clearly preferable to the AF peers for reflex of other brands for optical finesse and mechanical look. Although some f/1.4 AF allow better exploits at TA, I wouldn't waste time, the optimal use in portrait of this 85 is at f/2.8-4 and opening more you lose yield at the edges, flare and other things. AF not fast on A7r, but very precise. Excellent MF and DMF. From my experience the best complement to this excellent lens is an 85-100 manual focus for landscape, critical photos not very bright: it can always better sew the high frequencies, although this Sony is at the top of its category and an additional scare for the residual supporters of the Reflex. |
sent on September 20, 2019 Pros: Construction, weight, af/mf switch, sharpness Cons: Nobody Opinion: I put this canvas to the test for the wedding season, used most of the time at the end of the opening. It returns images of excellent quality, a soft at full opening, but it becomes a blade already at f2.8. Autofocus very well performing even in strong backlight conditions, Eyes detection does not miss a beat (it looks like the winning accopiawith my sony a7iii). Light and versatile becomes for me a reliable companion on which to rely on details, portraits and when looking for crushed perspectives and big blurred. I recommend the purchase. Money well spent on the quality it returns. |
sent on June 12, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, size and weight, blurry, autofocus, customizable button, solid construction, MAF ring Cons: Price (?), stabilization (but having us in the car...) Opinion: Taken to match with a A7III since the focal is the one I prefer for portraiture. Initially undecided between this and the Batis, after some reflection I chose to save by opting for the Sony (exploiting the cashback I took it home for €500). Choice even if comparing it with the competition is perhaps a little ' too expensive. Anyway, I tried it at an event and it was immediately love. Also crisp to TA (pure too), precise and silent AF and low weight. Very useful the button on barrel that I immediately assigned to the eye-AF function. I also really like the ring nut to focus in manual but the construction in general is rather pleasant to the touch, gives a sense of solidity. Blurry very but very enjoyable. I'm sure it will give me great satisfaction:) |
sent on May 04, 2019 Pros: Excellent sharpness and performance already from TA (and very three-dimensional rendering), fast, precise and quiet autofocus (behaves well even in situations of very low brightness), size and weight Cons: Blurred in particular nervous and unpleasant situations (leaf near foreground, trees close to the subject) Opinion: My favorite lens: really a blade for great portrait photographs, with a sharpness overflowing on my Sony a7iii. The bokeh in general is very pleasant but as said does not always get along with the presence of logs and foliage: it sometimes becomes a little confused and nervous. The almond light points in the blurred are a characteristic of the lens: for me it is not a defect, they are pleasant anyway, although I also prefer circular ones. It has the merit of being very handy, so much so that at the moment I take it for a walk during most "tourism" outings, along with zoom 16-35. I like the colors a lot, they are beautiful neutrals and I prefer them to those of Samyang lenses (which are warmer). For the price, which I consider quite fair, I recommend without a shadow of a doubt the purchase. |
sent on March 30, 2019 Pros: Light, Sharp Cons: Non-tropicalized, autofocus not at the top (for video) Opinion: Bought from 2 weeks, lens to which I pointed for a while, coupled with my Sony A7III in photo mode the lens behaves superlatively, excellent sharpness even to TA, in video did not satisfy me much.. NOTE: After 1 week from the purchase there has already deposited dust in the second internal lens, this thing I find absurd because the lens I used only 3 times and at home. I went to the dealer where I bought it and I told him if he could change it, at my request I received only a laugh in the face, told me that being non-tropicalized could not do absolutely anything, so now I have to keep the lens so, but it I find it absolutely unacceptable that after 2 weeks there is already some internal dust, note only negative for this factor. For the rest I already knew what I was meeting so I do not complain. |
sent on March 06, 2019 Pros: Sharp, light Cons: Chromatic aberrations, nervous bokeh, price Opinion: With this lens the spark was not taken, resolute after 2 months. It's an honest 85 F 1.8 But I was used to the 56 F 1.2 Fuji and landed at Sony I was looking for a worthy heir. I was a little disappointed. At the price to which it is proposed maybe I expected more, in several shots I noticed very annoying AC, backlight a sharp drop in contrast, and the bokeh too nervous and with the almond light points that I personally do not like. Purchased used probably the value for money improves. In my opinion more suitable for the series A7 smooth than R, I find more resolvent the Tamron 28 -75. |
sent on February 22, 2019 Pros: Lightness, cost Cons: Resolve, Bokeh Opinion: I have owned several 85 and in one of the various stages I purchased this 85 looking for something light and that was fully supported by Sony (especially the focus on the eye). The lens is light, small, well-built. It is also one of the less expensive lenses of the Sony system, albeit far more expensive than the Canon counterpart. I resolute it right away because of the optical characteristics. The resolution is too low for R series sensors, and perhaps more suitable for the A7 series "Smooth". It shows obvious limits also to f2.8, perhaps because the Sigma lenses, albeit stratosferically heavier, had accustomed me well in terms of quality already open. From the point of view of the resolve does not make the Canon regret, however, much less expensive (although not comparable, because adapted). Also, the bokeh has features that I don't like: it has a character that doesn't belong to me. I much prefer the Canon to that effect. I landed at Batis, which is another world in terms of resolve, albeit not at Sigma levels. The weight and size are just higher than the Sony and the Canon, but definitely not even comparable to the Sigma. Obvious: The price range changes considerably. |
sent on February 22, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, weight, bokeh, color rendition, custom button Cons: Nothing Opinion: Very satisfied, I bought this lens for some portrait and wanted something good but without spender too. Beautiful colors alive, sharpness excellent even at 1.8, if you close a bit is exceptional. Very agreeable Bokeh. I don't feel the need for stabilization thing that also makes this lens light. I highly recommend it! |
sent on February 01, 2019 Pros: Sharpness-weight-custom button-Autofocus Cons: Unstabilized-Custom button-lens hood Opinion: I took this optics in January 2019 taking advantage of Sony's cashback. I'm approaching the world of portraits and I wanted an appropriate perspective. Really nice lens, on Sony A7III it really returns some great files. The custom button is convenient for AF on the eyes if you take pictures horizontally, it becomes decidedly uncomfortable for vertical shots leaving prefer (always for Af over the eyes) other solution on the machine. The weight is not excessive and does not make it heavy, also used for video is not difficult to hold in hand even with a small tripod of the Manfrotto. Very comfortable the AF/MF button that speeds up the whole, good the ring for manual focus. The autofocus is fast and quiet. The lens hood is ugly, does its duty (of course) but it is ugly. The photos at F 4 are really well defined. Taken new to €570 to which will be subtracted the cashback of €60. The lack of stabilization means that the lens is lighter but you have to be careful with the times, the luck of having a Sony A7III in this point of view helps a lot. To date my kit includes, 35 mm 2.8 of Samyang, the 85 mm 1.8 Sony and Optics in Kit 28 70. Recommended Lens undoubtedly. |
sent on December 03, 2018 Pros: Weight, AF, price, construction, colors Cons: Lens hoods, light points, Bokeh Opinion: I bought this lens to add a tele from portraiture to my kit, the lens is well built, light and right from the start the impression of being very solid. The focus ring is metal, as on all Sony lenses, very nice to the touch but tends to get dirty easily and scratch, while I find too "Plasticoso" the lens hood. Very useful the softkey on the left side of the barrel (I have the eye-AF set), in this lens you will appreciate the AF more (flawless and silent, as many lenses Sony works "better" in AF-C than in AF-S but we certainly don't talk about a flaw) and The weight that make it a useful and practical lens even to make street. It already enjoys a great sharpness at TA, but if you close to 4 it becomes perfect for the level of definition that you have in the frame. Before the purchase I also tried the Sigma Art 85 1.4 and the Sony GM 85 1.4 and I have to tell the truth, to the of the details like size, weight, price (mostly) and aperture, I found really little difference between these two and the 85 Sony. Surely the Art enjoys a higher bokeh and even greater detachment, but for the use that I have to do I did not justify the purchase (it is also slower than AF), while the Sony GM did not excite me much, I found it superior only in the management of points Light. The 85 FE 1.8 to date is on my list of "best-buys" along with Samyang 35 FE 2.8: With just under €600 you bring home a great portrait lens (I bought it with Sony cashback) that has nothing to envy to the Big Brother GM. |
sent on November 17, 2018 Pros: Weight, size, customizable key Cons: A little plasticose construction Opinion: I find that very satisfactory. It has a very nice blurred and a good three-dimensionality, proportionally to its price (certainly not minimally comparable to the Canon 85 F/1.2 but that costs 4 times as much and weighs more than triple!) It is light and, attached to my A7R II, I even made it Street, without any hassle. Obviously not born for that but it was to emphasize the fact that it does not weigh and not cluttered. The AF is accurate and fast. Then just look at the photos below that say more than a thousand words (and just look at those of those who criticize!). Fact is that you hardly find it used because it goes away like bread. Recommended. |
sent on September 30, 2018 Pros: Overrated Lens Cons: Horrendous light points and bokeh not up to par Opinion: Buying this lens I thought I was in my hands a little gem, and instead I had to reconsider. The construction is also of a fair quality, but the light points are really embarrassing. Ad F 1.8 All over the FRAME are unwatchable, being anything but circular. The comparison with any Sigma art from 24 to 135 ends with a resounding laugh (at the level of bokeh and light points). At the level of sharpness I do not express, is not what I look for a portrait of the genre, but anyway if you are interested in splitting the pores of the skin, with this you will succeed. In essence It is a surprise that it would be amazing if it cost €250, but pay €600 for an unusable portrait optics to exploit light points (and with bokeh anything but exciting)... Personally I would never spend this figure for an 85mm f 1.8, also because those who have such a figure to spend, I think can make some sacrifices and point to the Sigma art (in case you need the AF) or on manual optics much more artistic and character. Too bad that the yield of the light points and the bokeh are so unsightly, because however it has an interesting optical pattern, but with this magagna. Note that there are strong chromatic aberrations and against the light is not the maximum, even if both these problems are solvable with a little ' serenity in post production. NB: It is obvious that compared to the Sony GM and Batis is economical, this does not mean that it is "economical" in general. We are talking about more than €600 for a mediocre lens, to be mounted maybe on machines that cost €2500. For portrait I would orient myself serenely on a 85 1.4 Zeiss series Zf\\ze, with enormously better results. Also because the AF does not find it indispensable on a lens designed for portraits. |
sent on September 16, 2018 Pros: Price, sharpness, colours, tropicalization, dedicated key configurable. Cons: Nobody Opinion: I start by saying that it is worth every cent maybe even more, we are faced with a small masterpiece of Sony home in fact, is lightweight fast and accurate, with excellent colors and sharpness, the blurred despite it is an F1,8 is really nice. The construction appears solid and with good quality materials, excellent key for the block of the MAF. The color rendition is great, accustomed to the colors Fuji I can say that this does not disfigure at all. Also excellent with the Eye-AF follows that it is a marvel even in conditions of light not optimal. I repeat for what it costs you can not really attribute flaws, indeed... |
sent on June 16, 2018 Pros: Sharpness, precise and fast AF, build quality Cons: Nobody Opinion: Following the migration in Sony I was undecided which optics to buy, daring I wanted to experience this fixed and affordable price, having never owned an 85mm. I must say that never chance was ever better! Obviously I can not make other comparisons being the only optics I have however as first impression the build quality is remarkable and to the touch is a nice pleasure, weight content and well balanced with body ML. Exceptional the button on the barrel that allows you to execute programmable commands, of course in other brands this option is located exclusively on Elite D-lenses. L found it helpful and I really enjoyed his presence. Outstanding sharpness already at TA, I also deserve the AF system of SONY that really amazed me positively, closing the diaphragm further becomes very incisive, I honestly was not accustomed to all this sharpness (however sought!). My impression the AF speed is good even in unfavorable conditions of light, as I say is not based on a technical assessment. For the bokeh I must say that it is not bad, although the shape of the light points is almond (obviously for better results you have to spend much more). I gave 10 as a vote because quality/price for this lens are really top for an amateur photographer. |
sent on June 03, 2018 Pros: sharpness, colors, fast AF, build quality. Cons: I don't know Opinion: I've had it for a few months. Excellent sharpness already at full aperture; Nice colors and very nice bokeh. Fast AF. Excellent construction quality; Cost adequate for yield, especially when compared to alternatives (Zeiss Batis and Sony GM) much more expensive so, in my personal opinion, it is not worth spending 2 or 3 times as much. |
sent on May 21, 2018 Pros: General optical quality, build quality Cons: Nothing relevant Opinion: I have it for about 1 month and use it together with A7 (24Mp). In my opinion the results in terms of sharpness, boke, colors are excellent. The sharpness is already excellent at 1.8 on the whole frame. The blurred light points appear circular at the center of the image, while on the periphery the discs take almond shape. If this was also a defect, I personally consider the general aspect of the Boke interesting and still very sweet and pleasant. At the constructive level the lens is solid, well built and the side keys for MF/AF + button Customizable settings are very comfortable. Very good and quiet autofocus. I noticed read chromatic aberrations in very intense backlight, but they correct themselves in a second. You might ask for a more precise manual focus ring to be at the top, but overall let's talk about a really well built lens, able to return excellent results at a reasonable price. |
sent on May 07, 2018 Pros: Build quality, weight/footprint, design, AF/MF button, customizable key/fire lock, troubleshooting Cons: Give A... or stingy quiver that you are nothing else?, the packaging is really sad and minimal, I think a little ' more ' cardboard pressed a little ' padding and a quiver did not devastate the economies of scale of those kids almond-eyed. Opinion: |
sent on December 27, 2017 Pros: Lightness, sharpness, aberrations when present are usually easily corrected Cons: Light points in the non-circular bokeh but tending to form an almond... almond fits better in this Christmas mood, and not onion:) Opinion: Appreciated this fixed lens of Sony House, suited typically to portrait photography. In my opinion the best performance is outside capturing the colors of ambient light, while in the studio with adequate light becomes very very sharp, no mistake a shot. I use it with satisfaction for a few months, AF reactive although in situations of critical light goes into trouble sometime (I think is more due to the machine in fact: A7II). I really like its rendering as a whole, chromatic aberration when present is easy to remove via software. Light and well balanced although the touch is a bit larger than the respective Canon/Nikon of the same aperture (but clearly native mechanics for digital). Pleasant the mentioned swirl effect of the bokeh, I do not like at all instead the yield "almond" and not round on the light points out of focus, especially not central. Delicatuccio the lens hood. My vote can't go beyond 8, even in value for money. |
sent on November 07, 2017 Pros: Dimensions and weight, blurry, very sharp already fully open Cons: None Opinion: I have just over a month (on sony a7II) and, as a lover of the focal point, I'm definitely happy with it and I'm using it a lot. rnThe portraits I use almost always at the maximum opening and is already clearly sharp and engraved. The blur I really like, it will not be the best ever but the out of focus I find it always pleasing. In conclusion I'm really happy that Sony has made a goal with these features at a reasonable price and small size |
sent on October 18, 2017 Pros: Light and sharp, beautiful colors Cons: They could include an objective lens bag Opinion: The lens is aesthetically beautiful and I really like it, with a feeling of cleansing and smooth. Very beautiful, light and beautiful colors. Maybe a bit high in price but all in line with the lenses of other homes. the colors he returns are faithful and the blur is very very uniform. I really like it because of a clear cut between the subject and the background (thanks to the full frame sensor and the wide opening of the diaphragm). Now I use only the 35 2.8 Samyang and this Sony 85 1.8 and I think I've got the coupled winning for my way of photographing. |
sent on September 19, 2017 Pros: Very compact and very precise fire setting and for the price it costs I find a good buy Cons: I did not buy it before :-) Opinion: I'm not a professional, but a mere passionate and for a long time I wanted a good 85mm but the great-looking G series was a bang, and with this I found a great performance product at a price that is worth it abundantly. I've done several photo shows and I have to say I'm really stunned by the excellent quality of my photos |
sent on September 17, 2017 Pros: Compact, weight, sharpness, af, price Cons: very light aberration Opinion: mounted on a7ii is lightweight, enters the jacket of my jacket which allows me to use it even when it rains, pull it out of my pocket to take is very comfortable. is a really clear lens, its sharpness is almost in my opinion "moving," fast and accurate, the price in my opinion is very competitive, considering the price of GM or other E mount. Light aberration but easily resolved in post. Highly recommended, can not miss a kit in my opinion. |
sent on August 10, 2017 Pros: Sharpness, weight, distortion, autofocus, blur Cons: Size, contrast and colors, price Opinion: Good optics, one of the best made by sony.rnPer how i mean the sony kit (compact, light and decently luminous) I find that a lens to be missing along with the 28 / 2.rnThe sharpness is already good on all the frame at 1 /1.8. The longitudinal chromatic aberration wire present is never annoying. It's a 85mm / 1.8, but reasonably lightweight. The color and contrast are not the same as the best lenses, although sony did very rarely better. In this respect the 85 gm is far worse. RnCanican equivalents are more or less the same level, but considerably cheaper. |
sent on June 30, 2017 Pros: Weight and compactness, sharpness, AF speed Cons: Out of focus Opinion: After reading great reviews I took it to replace it at 1.4 GM with the aim of reducing weight and bulk. Sharpness is excellent at TA and high speed autofocus. The blur is nice, not at the level of 1.4, but still quite creamy and with a slight swirl effect. It's a matter of taste: to many I know it likes, but it did not please me and I think that after all I will continue to carry me the weight of 1.4 |
sent on June 23, 2017 Pros: Robustness, tropicalization, NITID! Cons: Nobody. But if I really find one missing the bag to hold it. Opinion: Sony has produced a product with exceptional value for money. Looks at scary sharpness at 1.8, very good construction quality, keep it in dwarf with a nice feeling of robustness even though the barrel looks plastic but of high quality plastic that looks like metal , A 9-in-1 diaphragm in the tropicalized excellent optical quality, in short, it lacks nothing |
sent on March 21, 2017 Pros: Af fast, lightweight, well-balanced, very clear already at room temperature, very strong! Cons: Slight color abberrazzione backlit but easily fixable in PS Opinion: I bought this lens "economic" can not take it batis GM and I have to say that the choice is still very good! Is very strong and fairly light, with a nice big front lens (although I come from the Sigma 85mm f1.4) .rnMontato on the car is well balanced and even bell'aspetto.rnProvandolo you immediately notice the remarkable speed autofocus .rnDai first shots I immediately noticed a very creamy bokeh, (you can almost spreadable) ... precise rnMolto autofocus.rnIn the substance is a lens to have for what costa.rnSuper recommended! |
