Pros: Compact, lightweight, pocket-sized, excellent raw at low ISO, snap shot ... one of the best cameras for street photography
Cons: Lack of tropicalization, slow autofocus, high ISO, lack of a tiltable screen
Opinion: I've been using this camera for several months ... it's time to write a short review:) rnrnCorpo Machine: the Ricoh is a perfect car to carry around every day, weighs only 250 grams (less than 70 x XF / LX100), it is pocketable (it can be transported comfortably in the pocket of jeans or jacket). As a nikon user I found myself immediately at ease with the arrangement of the keys (some of which can be customized), the menu is very simple and intuitive. Good construction quality, even if light, the machine seems robust and solid.rnrnObjective: 28 mm is a lens difficult to use as a handyman, before buying the car I recommend carefully consider this aspect. The optics is very clear even at TA, further improves to f5,6 / 8. The distortion is well controlled to be a medium-wide angle. rnrnSensor: The 16 mp sensor without filter, combined with a high-level lens, allows you to have excellent images up to 800 ISO, at 1600 ISO noise is accecan be reduced to 3200-6400 ISO noise becomes a limit for color photos.rnrnAutofocus: the focus of the machine is not very fast and sometimes inaccurate, there is a lag between the moment you press the shutter and the recording of images. To overcome these limitations of the machine I find it very useful to use the burst (not to lose the "critical" moment) and above all the Snap Shoot.rn function Setting a focusing distance (1-1.5-2 meters) and clicking on the button shooting halfway, the photo is normally focused, if instead the button is pressed all the way down, the camera shoots without lag at the chosen distance. This is a very convenient system for street photography, where the association of a wide-angle lens combined with a closed diaphragm, allows an immediate and precise focus.rnrnOther functions: you can use presets for the management of colors and BW, they seem valid species for black and white images. rnrnConclusions: I recommend the Ricoh to all fans of street photography or reportage, it is a small, inconspicuous camera that nevertheless gives great images. I do not recommend the car to those looking for a compact all-rounder, the 28 mm is not easy to use, it can be more comfortable a 35 (such as the Fuji x100 series), or equipped with a zoom (sony rx 100 or the Panasonic Lx100) .rnrnNote : Looking on the net I read some cases of accumulation of dust on the sensor, in my experience I had no problems, the only precaution I used was to always use a case. |
