Pros: viewfinder , 12 mp , good IQ , very good ergonomics , size

Cons: limits of 4/3 format naturally , shutter sound , no weather sealing

Opinion: I write this review out of nostalgia, since I don't have the E30 anymore , sold it 2 years ago and I regret it . The E30 is certainly the best balanced 4/3DLSR Olympus has ever produced ; the body is comfortable to hold, ergonomics are great, 12 mp is plenty , files are clear and sharp . The viewfinder is large enough , bigger than the former E series but smaller than the E3's and E5's . I have an E3 and if I had to choose I'd take the E30 viewfinder , it's easier on the eyes . You get a horizontal level in viewfinder, very practical, and both horizontal and vertical in live view . The mobile screen is very useful , although ( contrast ) AF takes much longer than through the finder . Naurally you reach the limits of the 4/3 sensor very quickly in low light , but otherwise it's a great cam . Only real flaw for me was the sound of the shutter, an annoying and loud clack that would wake up the deads . If you can find a used one in good condition for not much , go for it .

Pros: 17 years old and not feeling them

Cons: considering the age. nothing

Opinion: Given that I already have an important high quality Nikon kit.. but with the usual widespread problem: size and above all weight! As a non-professional photographer, the heavy weight acts as a deterrent to use. Taking a day out for a walk means ensuring back and neck pain... which in the end makes you leave the trousseau at home and make do with the phone. I recently bought the E30 with the 14-42 from the shop at a ridiculous price. My choice fell on this model because despite its age it was very advanced in terms of technical solutions. See Articulated display to take advantage of the live view. Stabilized sensor. double slot.. etc etc. Obviously without forgetting a mirrorless weight between body and lens. I'm using it these days and I can only applaud mom Olympus. Photos of very high yield. Beautiful and natural colors.. excellent three-dimensionality and with a nice sense of "analog".

Pros: Ergonomics, lightness (compared to the E-5), dimensions

Cons: A bit noisy, absence of tropicalization (to those who care, I never cared much).

Opinion: It was my first "serious" machine, equipped in kit with the excellent 12-60 mm SWD. The 4/3 format is defunct, but the machines in circulation continue to be validly used (for those who have no problems with the format, such as myself). A curiosity: just because I was satisfied with the E-30, when I could I got an E-5 body. Great car also this, has everything missing from the E-30 (I refer in particular to tropicalization), but it is also much heavier. Result: I continue cheerfully to use the E-30, which I prefer! At the price with which it can be found on the market today, if in good condition and few shots, it can still be a great investment for a beginner. The 12 Mpx are perfect to hold the vintage optics, with which the fun (and the yield) are assured, at negligible costs.
