Opinion: I have a dozen 50mm lenses. So far two stand out : Zeiss 50/2 (Milvus version) and Summicron-R 50/2, both manual focus. The Nikkor 50/1.2 AI(S) stands not far behind and, among the newer lenses, the Tamron 45/1.8 is also remarkable, especially at night (low coma, no flare).
Well, this one is at least in the same league. Optical formula is probably similar with the Tamron (retrofocus design?) and results are comparable, but even sharper. Never has been the full aperture such usable for general photography. Also, I am not a fan of autofocus, but I have to admit it performs predictably well.
Concerning color (criticized by others) and rendering : if you are looking for special effects, the old 50/1.2 is more fun. If you don't like the colors, you may have a problem with the camera (Z6ii in my case; I no doubt prefer the Df) rather than the lens.
Bottom line, 9/10.

Opinion:Excellent lens, without a doubt the best that Nikon has ever produced in the focal length in the "normal" aperture. Quite compact, sharpness never seen before, absolute respect for the color palette. Personally, I like to play with more important lenses but I use this fifty firmly attached to my second body (a Zf) for street and travel photos, a minimal but high-level set that allows you to always have the camera with you. But you can certainly imagine building a very effective and fairly cheap layette by placing alongside ours the excellent Z 20mm and 85mm, both also f 1.8. The MTFs give unimaginable, very high responses, not comparable to any 50 Nikon ever produced and in fact the performance is completely similar to that of the 50 Art, therefore very high. But those who know a little bit about photos know perfectly well that MTFs are not everything and above all they do not give the idea of the finished photo. This is to say that obviously the 50mm f1.2 (which fortunately I own) is another story, it doesn't cost four times as much by chance. However, for the uses described above, this fifty appears absolutely irreplaceable, optically much superior to the various "all-rounder" zoommons that are popular among those who do not know what to buy. So well done Nikon, this is a really recommendable purchase!
Opinion:I was a bit hesitant to buy this lens as I do 99% landscape photography. Instead I immediately changed my mind. The material is robust, the lens is compact (in short, it is not a plasticone). Excellent focusing speed. The thing that struck me most was the sharpness and the level of detail already at f5.6 (in all the shots I never had to close more). For urban photography it was a very valuable ally of my Z7 II. The price is slightly high for the type of lens; Fortunately there are used ones in excellent condition where you can take it home at a reasonable price.
Pros:Sharpness construction materials autofocus balance and much more.
Cons:I got around the only negative point by buying it used .
Opinion:Those who make comparisons with the AF-S with F1.4 aperture of photography understand very little, it is not an intelligent logic. I am satisfied with the general performance of this lens, used with Nikon Z6 II the result I find excellent, well-calibrated colors excellent blurred despite being "only" a 50mm, in the tests it held very well even in backlight and in the lines I did not notice particular distortions. Unfortunately Nikon sometimes forces us to turn to the import market because the Nital warranty comes to cost too much, I took it used because it was a good opportunity otherwise I would have taken a ride on the web. For me promoted with flying colors as long as you use it for what it is without deluding yourself of having another goal. P.S. the portraits in my gallery have nothing to do with the optics in question and were developed at the request of the models, I'm not a professional so I gladly play to do what is indicated to me without pulling it too much. As regards Mr. Alex I did not hide behind a keyboard because I have no reason, I express my judgment as you expressed yours giving a mediocre judgment to the optics Z thing clearly in contrast with most users who do not seem so naive and then the images posted speak for themselves for those who want to accept them, I remain of the idea that you do not compare two lenses of different class especially when you are biased, I do not add anything else.
Opinion:Perfect optics that take full advantage of the Z mount. If version 1.2 did not exist, this would probably be enough. Lens with sharpness, microcontrast and bokeh of a couple of classes higher than ever released on F mount by both nikon and tamron/sigma, so much so that any direct comparison would be embarrassing and I find it hard to believe that there are people who prefer the old versions. Instant autofocus in almost any light situation. This lens represents a generational leap between the old and the new and is felt everywhere, unfortunately also in price. In my opinion, however, it is definitely worth it.
