Pros: ??? Looks cool and can be used as a self defense tool.

Cons: Practically everything: too heavy, too dark, too soft. And too expensive (back then).

Opinion: I had this lense and hardly ever used it. It was too big and heavy to carry around. It was too cumbersome to handle. It was front heavy even with my big bodies and on a heavy Manfrotto tripod with heavy frotto head. I would never buy something like this again. It was ridculously expensive (if we compare to 300mm options available today, also from nikon). We grow making mistakes, mine were many and some were expensive.

Pros: Metal, TA, creamy bokeh, multiplied with Kenko

Cons: At the moment none

Opinion: Taken recently and my opinions are positive... currently tested only with the D70s for gaming but will be mounted on D7100/D3s/D5. As with the Bighiera you can multiply with the KENKO PRO 300 1.4X that I use with the 80-200Optics dated but professional, blurred creamy like the D series optics, very sharp at TA. Purchased for Sports

Pros: robustness, optical quality, integrated lampshade, bokeh

Cons: non-removable tripod bracket, weight/clutter

Opinion: In my opinion it is one of those optics that can not be missing in the backpack of the evolved amateur. I had 3: when I got tired of the weight and clutter I sold it, then wept crocodile tears and bought it back immediately. Compared to its descendants it pays in weight, clutter and infinity AF, but offers goodies not a little, such as the 39mm filter slot, the telescopic lampshade and the most practical fire limiter that Nikon has ever been able to give birth to, thanks to the blocking screw that offers a unexpectedly comfortable. From an optical point of view there is little to say. The homogeneity of the yield on the entire frame is legendary, and only at f/4 is a soft hair. The colors are neutral and do not fear the backlight (probably thanks to the limited number of air/glass interfaces and the inner lining of the barrel); I must say that on this point some judgments are conflicting, but as I have written, I have owned 3, and I do not remember ever having problems with contrast drop or flares. The bokeh is also very neutral, with extremely homogeneous light point yields. Last not least, the price of the used: the last one I paid for 260 euros (2019).

Pros: Construction, bokeh, current price..

Cons: Af some chromatic aberration easily solvable in post

Opinion: Imported from Japan as a lens not very common currently in Italy.. The fuzzy is fantastic and the construction is flawless Nikon old style. I use it on Nikon D7100 and despite the dense sensor is still a sharp lens even if in my opinion from the best of SE on FF 24mpx.. The absence of stabiliser forces rapid shots 1/640 1/800 pushing the ISO at the top. As defects, being an AF-D, has the autofocus noisy and not comparable to the speed of current AF-s (although I think it depends on the machine used) on d7100 is not even very precise, although the focus limiter helps a lot... however recommended at prices below 400 euros, above is the AFS (€650) with the advantages of autofocus although probably the blur is lower.
