Pros: Everything about image quality, Af.

Cons: Senseless weight and size, non-Arca bracket, huge and plastic lens hood, requires practice.

Opinion: The 250mm is one of the best lenses in the GF series. The technical quality of the photographs is excellent in all respects, there is little to add. It has no problem with flare, loss of contrast or haze even with the sun in the field, off-screen or in any case incident on the front lens. Sometimes, in fact, I don't even wear that plasticky mug of beer in his lens hood. The AF is quick and accurate. As a last pro I add that compared to the other GFs I have it is the one that best withstands diffraction, closures even at f11 do not give obvious drops in contrast. Defects: this is a project from 7-8 years ago and seeing what they have come up with with the GF 500mm which has the same size and weight you understand how this could have been too, which is f4 but is half of focal length! It is a matter of practicality that in my case is quite heartfelt being this the GF that, with the 80mm, gave me more satisfaction. If it were designed today it would probably be two fingers shorter and would be around kg. The others are secondary defects, the bracket must be replaced and requires a good deal of practice to be tamed. Compared to the others I have, it is the one a little less sensitive to the stabilizer and this having two of them, on the body and camera. I'm not saying it doesn't work because the images have a good chance even with long shutter speeds, sometimes with 1/30 they are usable. As I am, staying under 1/125 is a guarantee of success. It has the boredom that once engaged it does not make it possible to drive the stabilizer in the car, if it turns off on the lens it also turns off on the camera and you cannot experiment with the best combination. Sometimes I think it would be better to keep one or the other. In theory, adding up, they could have 7 stops of efficiency but it is absolutely not true.

Pros: Optical quality: sharpness, blur, three-dimensionality. Autofocus. Stabilization

Cons: Tripod bracket that is excessively awkward to hold

Opinion: It's an exceptional telephoto lens. Although it is not super bright, in collaboration with the super sensor of the GFX it is able to highlight the subject and portray it with great sharpness and plasticity. Moreover, if used on a sensor as large and generous as that of the GFX 100II it has no problem to bring out wonderful photos even in critical or "absent" light conditions since you can easily go up with the ISO up to 12800 while maintaining a very high quality and a JPEG ready in the camera. The autofocus is valid and silent, limited only, in the most dynamic situations by the "slowness" of GFX bodies (without exception), situations in which the advanced amateur who buys the medium format will never find himself in his life. The stabilization is excellent, about 5 stops. The construction of the highest level, the soft and velvety ring of manual focus is very pleasant, as well as the ring for the apertures, which, however, lacks the lock for each value. The lens hood is also ergonomic with its very useful window for adjusting the filters. The only less positive note, indeed I would say quite annoying, is represented by the discomfort of the tripod bracket, totally inadequate for this type of lens. It is too small, with too little room for fingers both in length and depth, and it has no ark swiss binding. Fortunately, at least the ring, at the end of which the stirrup is located, is removable. Unfortunately, this defect affects many mid-range - medium-high range lenses of many other manufacturers. It takes so long to build generous and comfortable stirrups, with soft material possibly ??? evidently yes....

Pros: Build quality, bokeh, clutch ring focus soft and precise.

Cons: Price, weight size, shoe tripod ring not really comfortable for a tripod-free swing, 82 filters.

Opinion: Everyone knows that in the M. F., the weight are factors included, the point is that the lens is born to be placed on a tripod, so the manual swinging if of short duration there can be and in AF, a use of more technological materials for the barrel to the advantage of the weight was desirable. Personally I had to equip the tripod shoe with an economic grip without remote click to overcome the overall weight of the GFX50R +250 mm system., almost 2.5kg .. Also given the size a little brighter was a must, because so as soon as the light goes down you have to shoot in ISO. Conclusion excellent lens for studio photos with static subjects, and better result of the features when combined with the GFX 100.
