Pros: Lightweight, compact, price, blur, sharpness

Cons: I can't find any... perhaps a slight aberration at TA

Opinion: Knowing that you are buying such a lens for a scarce hundred euros, I would say that the pros outweigh the cons. In any case, I bought it a few months ago and used it on several occasions with different lighting conditions. The result is always very satisfying, with sharp files, a very pleasant blur (clearly goes to taste) that guarantees an excellent detachment of the subject from the background. The key point is, in fact, to get used to the 50mm, especially if you come from a wide use of 35mm: it will be narrow, but not quite as a 70. But in doing so, he forced me to experiment and "study on it". I would say 9.5 deserved. Ah, I use it on a 6D Mk1, a great combination.

Pros: Lightness, price, size, soft and sharp blur in the center from f/2.2, spare parts perpetually available and at low cost.

Cons: chromatic aberrations below f/3.2, slow focus (always remember the price eh). Just to be meticulous (although I never needed it) the window for the focusing distance is missing.

Opinion: The first lens I bought since I had the 1300D, 7 years ago, I really did everything, it fell a dozen times both from tables and hands while I changed it with another lens. Perfect for those who want to have a simple 50mm, which costs little, with an indifferent focus if it is slow or fast (as long as it works). Cabbage that nice soft blur that gives, in my opinion, always comparing it to the price, from f / 2.2 creates a blur and a vignetting that I have always liked. I know that sooner or later I will switch to the 50L, but until that day I will enjoy every single shot with one of the simplest and at the same time ignorant lenses of Canon mom. Obviously do not hear of those who talk about stabilizer, tropicalization or particular functions on a lens that from NEW is to 150 €. The hood is plastic, hard as a soufflé and attaches to the lens through esoteric rites and / or macumbe. For me the plastic fantastic takes a 10, with all the flaws it has, end of story, an evergreen that always looks good in a setup for a novice. Absolutely recommended for those who want to buy the first prime lens.

Pros: Sharpness, size, bright, stm, low cost, metal bayonet.

Cons: On apsc becomes an 80mm

Opinion: Excellent lens, used is between 70-90 € (the model before even less), definitely a must if you like portraiture. On apsc it becomes an 80mm, so not really versatile as a focal length compared to ff. I would not recommend it as the first lens to buy (on apsc) because of its limited use, rather I would opt for a 24mm 2.8 stm that becomes a 40mm or a tamron 17-50 2.8 that costs a little more (150 € used). Good sharpness at 1.8 but I recommend using it from 2.8. For the rest top the engine stm and good materials for the price itself of the optics.

Pros: Cost/price, STM engine, weight, quality

Cons: It is not L series, but it does very well for "normal" (non-professional) use.

Opinion: A lens that I bought used (2 times) from a colleague who had taken it new 1 month before. Paid 70 euros, practically given away. I also have the 50mm II, which in terms of construction and engine speed, has nothing to do with this STM. Honest goal, to have in the kit (even if only for "whim" of the taste of 50ino). Warm colors, beautiful blurred. Lens that, personally, I still have to take full advantage of to understand the philosophy (also having the 35mm, I notice that I use the latter more). For the price and quality it has, it is definitely a must-have. Compact, lightweight, it is easy to carry it around .... when you want to take away all the equipment. I recommend buying a hood (just taken) and "UV" / protective filter to avoid annoying dust in the concave part of the lens.

Pros: Everything, including price

Cons: None, considering the price

Opinion: Considering the price, it is part of those optics that can not be in the kit of any enthusiast. The 50mm 1.8 STM has solved most of the problems of the old EF 50 mark I and II (first of all the fact of being among the ugliest lenses ever put on the market), becoming in essence a pancake 1.8 of excellent workmanship. Obviously it is made of plastic, obviously it is not tropicalized, obviously the focus is not lightning (and moreover, the focusing motor brings out the lens, which is very bad); But removed these "defects" is an extraordinary lens: the aperture of F1.8 makes it excellent for evening use, the focal length 50mm is simply the "standard" and the weight and size are frankly ridiculous. At full aperture it maintains a decent level of detail, from f 2.8 onwards it is a real blade. It suffers a bit against the light, but nothing that can not be corrected in post simply by activating the corresponding profile. In short, it is better from all points of view than its brother 1.4 (and it is not clear why Canon does not want to update that damn lens). And finally, used is less than € 100.00; new, Canon Italia website at € 139.00. Those who use Canon MUST have it supplied.

Pros: ALL

Cons: Given the price, nothing

Opinion: I start from the cons: it could be said that it does not have the hood in the sales package and must be purchased separately and that the STM engine is not a lightning bolt. True. But for 150 euros what do you expect? Considering that on offer it is new close to 100 euros and used even less is a BEST BUY! lens. Lightweight, sharp, with a character that approaches the 50L EF and that outclasses the big brother 50 f / 1.4 USM that costs 2 to 3 times (depending on market fluctuations). Taking used this and a 6D you have a relatively low cost kit with which you can do everything, especially start photographing with lenses with large aperture and large blur. You can use it on aps-c where it becomes 50m x crop factor 1.6 equivalent to an 80mm, the perfect focal length for portraits. What more do you want from this little guy?

Pros: Price, sharpness

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: It is the lens with which we usually start, given the price. Yet the sharpness, already at maximum aperture, is splendid. Obviously suitable for portraits, but beyond closed spaces in which obviously the focal length (which in APS-C reaches 75-80 mm depending on the brands) struggles, you can do anything. For me, especially considering the price, it deserves 10.

Pros: Price, sharpness, bokeh, compact, lightweight, fast and quiet AF, filter diameter 49mm

Cons: for what it costs I would say nothing special if not a very slight chromatic aberration easily solvable in post and lack of an infinite focus indicator

Opinion: Purchased the lens in the canon store at a discount of 107 euros which in my opinion was a super deal, nothing can be said for what it costs ... FAST AF (not as much as USM), precise and silent, at f1.8 personally I find it very lightly soft (nothing so catastrophic) but at 2.0 onwards it is super sharp as an L series, on APS-C it becomes an interesting 80mm. Another positive thing and the 49mm diameter saves you a lot of money in buying filters, in addition, it is so compact and light that you carry it around without problems. "negative" things, it does not have a positioning indicator in the infinite focus since the bezel turns without a block, so it is something that I think to solve with an indicator applied with a beautiful water melt decal customized by me, then there is the price of the hood ... I do not understand how it costs a piece of plastic 35/40 euros ... we are talking about 1/3 of the price of its goal, in short, there is to have patience in finding it at an affordable price. Rating 10, happy with the purchase.

Pros: Light, Sharp closing the aperture a little, Economical, Blurred

Cons: The plastic construction exposes it very much to scratches

Opinion: Purchased in April, I started squeezing it only from May. Initially I was worried about the image quality for how much I paid for it but the images immediately proved me wrong. Soft at full aperture, it improves a lot by closing it at f/2.2 and becomes perfect between f/2.8 and f/5.6. Mounted on 7DII it offers an angle of view equal to an 80mm which makes it, in my opinion, a best buy for portraitists. Its lightness is a huge point in its favor, I almost forgot to have it with me in the bag: unlike heavier lenses, you can dare with shutter speeds even higher than 1/50 without risking running into the blur (clearly on static subjects). The autofocus is STM type and is very fast and accurate, personally it has never given me problems. The only drawback in my opinion is the construction a bit plasticy that could make it easy to scratch (even if my specimen is still immaculate). In my view, it is a lens that, no matter how much it costs, cannot be asked for more. It would be a 6 but I give it 7 for the excellent value for money

Pros: Lightweight, a decent-sized manual focusing cap, bright, well made and inexpensive. It is easily found in the used in excellent condition (A)

Cons: The hood attachment hinders the manual fire. The Af engine is not USM. Although STM is quiet.

Opinion: It is a lens to have because it is cheap and bright. On an APS it is an 80mm so valid for portraits. Excellent optical performance. Light. The manual focus ring, the metal bayonet coupling, is back. Unfortunately, the attachment for the hood hinders manual focusing. If it had been a cm longer it would not have bothered anyone. It would have been nice to also have a graduated scale of distances and depth of field. I would have preferred the ring USM engine instead of the STM. Bought used in excellent condition I do not regret the money spent.

Pros: Compact, lightweight, well made, bright, sharp, economical.

Cons: None noteworthy.

Opinion: A lens achieved, which does its duty, at a more than reasonable price. Despite the fact that the plastic construction returns a good feeling to the touch, the materials are of quality and the bayonet is made of metal. It is a pleasure to keep it mounted on the SLR given its lightness, also excellent performance in terms of image quality and sharpness, I did not notice problems of flare, vignetting or distortion, nor focus. The only drawback is the lack of versatility that is clearly common to all fixed lenses (which for this reason I do not particularly love), but this is already known at the time of purchase. Promoted with flying colors.

Pros: Ideal brightness (no need to go beyond f/1.8 or f/2), optical quality at all levels: sharpness, colors, bokeh, resistance to flare and diffraction, absence of distraction and various aberrations just a little vignetting up to f / 2.8 which in the end is nice (I often add it artificially in PP). Compact and lightweight. Af silezioso, very precise (total absence of back / front focus with all my Canon FF SLRs even those without micro-adjustments of the Af) and lightning fast. All-round focal length... and of course the price.

Cons: It looks like a "toy", the construction is all in "plastic" but it is quite accurate to the point that for me it is not really a con, the "plastic" in practice turns out to be more stable, more resistant and more solid mechanically than the metal construction, the only thing I really regret is the absence of metric scale and PdC.

Opinion: the 50mm around f/2 is a "classic" and is a focal length that I have always used a lot in my photographic practice (or had Leica, Contax Zeiss, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, etc ...) and is therefore of course that the 50mm f / 1.8 stm has come, finally replace in my current kit the old 50mm f / 1.8 II that I have used so far, "remnant of war" of the analog era today more elegantly called "Vintage". The optical schemes of these 2 lenses are absolutely identical (a symmetrical planar type scheme) so I expected a purely mechanical improvement (faster and quieter af, better quality plastic, etc ..) but in practice it is a whole other story, the anti-reflective treatment "Super Spectra Coating" (also used in certain L series lenses) makes all the difference and has repercussions on all criteria, contrast, color fairness and saturation, flare resistance and even T.A. sharpness are considerably improved and reach optimal levels. At the bokeh level not only Canon has added a supplementary lamella to the diaphragm (7 slats instead of 6) but in addition they are rounded to form a practically circular opening, but the improvement of the general contrast also has an impact on the quality of the bokeh which is nervous, contrasted, progressive and with a beautiful relief effect comparable to the old Germanic optics, of course it is a matter of taste others will prefer a blurred that "brutally" detaches the subject on a flat, uniform and low-contrast background (as if it were contoured on a uniform background) so much to the "fashion" of today with the Japanese ultra-bright lenses and will find the bokeh of the 50mm stm mediocre or even ugly then that I find it excellent. Finally, the Af is of a speed and precision without faults and in addition it is perfectly silent, so apart from the absence of metric scale and PdC I can only recommend it 100%. Evidently the f/1.4 usm model, more luxurious and better built (it has a beautiful MaF ring with metric scale and PdC references) and with excellent performance (they are equivalent to the f/1.8 stm, with a very nice bokeh for my taste but with a lot of distortion and a huge vignetting) is a serious competitor not so much for 1 f / stop more opening or for performance as for quality and completeness of manufacture, but that's another story... PS : despite all the old 50mm f/1.8 II I do not retire, its Vintage yield without resorting to adapter rings, etc ... because perfectly compatible EOS is still useful to me on certain occasions.

Pros: Sharpness - AF compared to the 50ino old

Cons: Do not have it in your bag - Flare - Chromatic aberrations

Opinion: What can I say... I had for years the predecessor and I decided to do this "upgrade" to check if it actually had these pros compared to the 50ino old; so after receiving an honest offer for my 50ino, which I didn't think possible in 2022, I made the change. Well... I would say that I am very, very satisfied, first of all by the construction, excellent. That said, I honestly do not understand how you can say that the AF is noisy, or you are used to only the L series otherwise as far as I am concerned it is silent. I also found it much more accurate than the 50ino old, even if sometimes it is still wrong, especially at f / 1.8, but already at f / 2.0 I find it excellent. At least now there are more shots that I take home than those I throw, but maybe on this aspect I was lucky. I must say that I was also pleasantly impressed by the sharpness. At f/1.8 I think it's equal to the 50ino old, while already at f/2.0 mine is a blade. I was stunned by the detail. I find it even more contrasted against the light, but the flare and the CCs are always there. For the first one there is little to do, apart from immediately getting the hood, which I have already done. While the AC I found them evident, but nothing that I could not remove in post. Finally, the bokeh... certainly improved compared to the old, on some occasions I find it very pleasant, other times instead it is nervous. At the end of the day I found it a big step forward compared to the old 50ino and for the price at which you take them home looking in the used is certainly a must-have.

Pros: compact, lightweight

Cons: not very sharp a ta

Opinion: Perhaps a bit like everyone, it is one of the first lenses purchased, for me far superior to its cousin 1.4, the only defect found is the lack of sharpness at full aperture, in fact it makes it very good from 2.2 to go up on canon 5dmarkiii compact and very light, you do not feel like keeping it behind, I think it should not be missing in any backpack , just in case, very useful for street and portraits

Pros: light, small, crisp, cheap

Cons: nobody

Opinion: For the price that this lens has it is difficult to find a con against it, I have possessed it since its release to replace the older non-STM version. The focus is excellent, not at the level of the USMs (the real ones, however, not the usm of 50 1.4), but still not as noisy and inaccurate as that of a traditional moped. Certainly very sharp, even at full opening, it is a lens that is cheap, but it knows how to give so much, it is so compact that it would be a shame to leave it at home!

Pros: light, small, more than sufficient performance even at full opening, economical and also well built, AF very very good and quiet

Cons: just the focus by wire

Opinion: For this price, with these characteristics and for what it must do, it is the fifty reference. Sharpness is more than enough even at full opening in the middle zone, but it also defends at the edges in reality if you do not expect a performance from Zeiss or Leitz. If it closes, as others have written it becomes a beast of definition on any machine body. The AF is quite quiet (not like the 24-105 STM, to be honest, but enough) and precise. The only flaw for me is the focus by wire that does not allow full time manual focus (that is: if you want to move the focus, when you are with the lens switch on AF you can not do it by hand). It has everything you need at a cost, frankly, really derisory. Ah, maybe another flaw has it, yes: I hadn't bought it until now! :D

Pros: usable to t.a., very sharp from f/2.8, price, colors

Cons: af slow

Opinion: on apsc, excellent portrait lens. the blurry will not be the best but it costs a whistle, closed 1 stop becomes a blade, the colors are beautiful, cluttered little, weighs little and also has the metal bayonet. on mirrorless (M5) the af is not wrong but it is certainly not lightning. obligatory purchase. sold once, I regretted it quickly, I just bought it back.

Pros: it costs very little, light, small, sharp, quick and precise af

Cons: the new stm version is better and costs practically the same. so this version makes little sense. blurred at pentagons a little hard

Opinion: classic and inevitable optics. overtaken by the better and more perforated stm version. in 2021 I would buy the stm but if you find the old mk2 at 50 euros in good condition it can in any case be a good price/value option. among the defects of the mk2 version to be noted: blurred to very obvious pentagons, blurred in general hard and with a "concentric" effect. very sharp even at full opening, but shows a drop in contrast. works discreetly well even in backlight. from the best between f2.8 and f4 where it's a real blade and you reduce the pentagon problem

Pros: Cost, lightness, brightness

Cons: Autofocus, materials, soft at 1.8

Opinion: Entry level lens for those approaching the fixers, well the mark Ii as they took away the horrible plastic attack. A f1.8 is soft as sharpness and at the edges but is normal. Suitable for those who start. There are fixed at 50 much better, on Canon on all the 50 1.4 now greatly deprecied. The most positive note is certainly the cost: with a centello (even much less used) you take home a bright lens

Pros: sharpness in the center when he manages to focus...

Cons: un reliable focus

Opinion: I wanted to buy the 50 1.8 again to mount it on my Canon 5Ds with 50.6mpx sensor, I am already at the second specimen, which to focus it correctly I had to calibrate to -15... however it had an absolutely unreliable focus. I buy a second specimen, this is more correct as calibration, but even this has completely unreliable focus, a good 30% of the photos taken with open diaphragm are blurred, test tests, but the autofocus really gets too wrong, maybe using it always to f8 on camera with 12mpx sensor could also be satisfactory, but on my machine no for sure , also made the second specimen. In the past I also had an old 1.8 that split into 2... a 1.4, also this figure away due to inconsistency of the AF and a 1.2 what satisfied me the most, sharpness to 1.2 apart.

Pros: Everything, if one knows what he's buying.

Cons: Nothing, if anyone knows what they're buying.

Opinion: New, at worst, 140€. Used, at best 80€. Perfect lens for beginners who want to try their hand at fixtures. Normal focal point on FF. Portrait on APSC (80mm equivalent). Lightweight and compact, it takes you anywhere, with any machine. My copy, in the middle, is clear already at F/1.8. It improves to F/2 and remains excellently sharp. At the edges, very soft from F/1.8 to F/2.8; soft up to F/3.5, sharp up to F/4.5, very sharp at F5.6. Chromatic aberrations and pp-corrected vignetting. What I like most is that it's "no-brain." For cost, for portability, for ease of use. If you break it down, you buy it back :). If you dig up, zero time, you sell it. I compared it with EF40mm F/2.8 STM and EF35mm F/2 STM: if you leave out the edges up to F/2.8 and the center at F1.8, the optics provide the same image quality. I had the previous version (not STM): another planet for physicality and constancy of MAF. What to say: catch him!

Cons: For the membership band, none.

Opinion: Lent myself for a couple of days, mounted it on a 5D II, and took a walk around central Rome. In addition to having fun making street, because it is so light that it does not even seem mounted on the car, I also brought home some cute shots, It does not have the quality of the other high-end Canon 50mm, but it is about fifty more than dignified. Good Canon.

Pros: The price, lightness, sharpness from f/2.8 onwards.

Cons: At this price?! maybe it attracts dust I would say.

Opinion: Well I use it with the canon adapter on the m50 and so aps-c, autofocus very fast and precise and from f/2.8 on is very sharp, I'm not a fan of portraits with an eye on fire and one no or extreme bokeh, my favorite diaphragm is f/3.2 and gave me respectable photos. No one forbids using it from f/1.8 to f/2.5 but it's not as sharp as you'd expect, I took it at the modest 88th figure used as new and with shipping included, never made a better deal!!!! I did the paraone between the 50 stm f/1.8 and the 50 usm f/1.4 , well the photos are at f/1.4 and f/1.8 in the usm worse than the stm to TA, then instead the usm from f/2.8 onwards is better at the edges but in the center are IDENTICI. Certainly among the 2 I recommend the 50 stm without a shadow of a doubt, so much the usm to f/1.4 is unusable. In the cons I did not put the material that may seem cheap in comparison to a usm definitely, because x 88th what I care about is only the end result.

Pros: Price,weight,sharpness

Cons: Paralight not included

Opinion: If you start by comparing it to 50 1.2 logically it doesn't make sense. In my opinion one of the goals with the best value for money. Light and short, light not included but that price can stand. Bought only for sphid and I must say that not having Expectations surprised me very much. Very good blur and af in the norm. So light you do not feel the lack of stabilizer snaps at 1/125 without problems. At f2.8 in my opinion it give the best.

Pros: Price, sharpness, color yield

Cons: Af

Opinion: Let's start with the only flaw I've encountered: the STM engine doesn't go like other STM lenses. I also own the 55-250mm STM that goes great: much more precise and especially silent! However, leaving out the uncertainty of the AF, I can only find positive aspects: the sharpness is spectacular already at f/1.8, but it is at f/2.2 that it becomes a real blade even in the edges of the image; The chromatic rendering is fantastic and the bokeh very pleasant. It weighs very little and is very small, almost takes no space in the backpack. All in all, considering that there are definitely superior quality lenses (But they cost at least 5 times as much), my rating is 8/10.

Pros: value for money, bokeh

Cons: -

Opinion: This is my first fixed lens, so it requires a different approach to photography than zooms. I bought it because I was curious to experiment with a fixed optics and to approach the portraits set; the very low price (new costs 130 euros) is an incentive to buy. It looks small and light but well built (always in relation to its price). The f 1.8 aperture allows for a lot of light, it's great for bokehs and indoor photography. Not very easy to find the filter (diameter 49). It is a suitable lens for both aps-c and full-frame and is well in the kit of all photographers.

Pros: At this price, as a quality ratio is not afraid of comparisons, they have improved what was missing in the previous version, maf silent, fast, precise, bokeh much more pleasant without pretending to have one macro lens, light but with a sense of solidity appropriate to its use and price, metal graft compared to the plastic one before and is not little, bright and contrasted colors, gorgeous Canon style, autofocus and maf with effective stm, quick and silent that so far I have not done a high number of given any problem, with good light and poor light, even indoors, it defends at full open using fast safety times freehand, at ease of course you manage even better even if you have to find harmony for the photos with large openings, maybe doing repeated diaphragms with steps of 1/4 stop at a time to evaluate the yields to each parameter and know better the "character", I do not evaluate it in portraiture, it's not my kind, but for the tests that I did not do anyway openings, of course it is looser in this sense to easel. Multipurpose lens, cheap with considerable potential for those who know how to draw that gives satisfaction in various areas, but I find it fantastic, for my genres, especially in the yield in close-up pushed, thanks also to the reduced allowed distance of maf, where it can express images with detail, although cropped a bit even to diaphragms rather closed (with good light of course), not far from the yield of a macro lens, definition/detail excellent already ' to F2, 2.2 but it sharpens more and more from F2.5 in f4 and a' What to say further, lens to keep "always" even if you prefer 50mm with larger openings for portrait use or for blurring with more specialized m's more 'expensive' meters, this defends itself in any case always very well in every area, even in its "small"

Cons: No lens is perfect, but for what it offers and for those who know how to photograph and understand its potential, it can amaze from various points of view and use and I find it difficult to find defects of particular relevance (some complain of problems from maf and/o f/b focus, but can 'dodepend from the unfortunate model or maybe from a very intense use), my specimen so far is perfect but as I have already expressed, I have not done so many

Opinion: As for my experience with this goal, which I have compared in the "practical" use with the "II" version above, good but lower on some aspects (maf less punctual and noisier, plastic bayonet, bokeh of lower quality with 6 slats...) to this current version where it is really difficult to honestly expect more at this price for what it knows how to offer to those who know how to use it properly (with the Canon 5D Mark III works in symbiosis in a spontaneous and excellent way.but also on aps-c). I am very satisfied and I will hardly separate it, even if I were ever to take in the future one with a similar but brighter focal, which I could go to in case only for a model even with the same millimeter and also possibly to the same focal and brightness that for me is enough and), advances only for a stabilized model and at a reasonable price. In the gallery I have some examples of practical use, especially in close-up of this lens (like beautiful other photos present in the forum made by other amateurs with this lens) that express in the substantial use and not in words or theory what you can pull out of this little jewel. I am surprised at the close-up level, the rendering of definition/details colors really level and a pleasant bokeh (the latter depends very obviously also on the chosen pdr, from the subject and framing, from the context and the ambient light cultured) that is not necessarily to diaphragms more open but also to different diaphragms, with preference for those on average closed to be evaluated time after time of course, the latter area in which I prefer to compose more my photographic genres (although in the last months for various reasons photographer very little), even if not exclusively), then on blurred and bokeh, in post it is always possible to attenuate or optimize the natural yield that the lens can offer, as well as any other aspect of the resulting photo that in the darkroom RAW, each amateur photoor/photographer adapts to his own personal taste. Slow and I conclude, for me essential to always have with you in the photographic hardware kit, even just as a lens of "emergency" or to be tested/used when "inspired" that can take you away from the plagues in emergency cases in multiple situations, unless you want to test the possibilities anything but modest, when used in certain areas quietly also as the main "normal" lens...

Pros: lightness, sharpness, good blur... unsurpassed price

Cons: materials, af...

Opinion: Sure, it has its limits and shows them if put to the test for intensive and complex uses, but it's really a boon. A lens that can return excellent if not even excellent images at an unimaginable price... especially if Canon. The autofocus (at least in mine) lacks precision, but his work (at this price) does it well. Very recommended to those who start and still to keep in the bag. A "plastic" that can surprise.

Pros: Light, compact, economical, sharp, almost absent distortion, good image even in backlight, focal and blurry opening, value for money

Cons: Lack of stabilizer, nonsensical 49mm diameter, hallucinatory chromatic aberrations at f1.8, too soft at TA, noisy autofocus, slow and often inaccurate and unusable with little light, and that after a few months begins to give problems of back and front focus, unreliable lens and unsuitable for slightly more dignified uses

Opinion: This fifty can not be missing in the optical park of a beginner or an amateur, it has an excellent value for money because despite having various limitations it is worth all its 130 euros. It is sharp, almost distortion-free, it returns a good blurr thanks to the f1.8, although to have less soft images and with less chromatic aberrations it is better to use it from f2 onwards, aberrations to f1.8 are hallucinatory, although perhaps varies from specimen to specimen. On the other, it is very light and compact. But man... I would have preferred to pay it 30 euros more but have at least reliable focus... it misses various blows even at f more closed, and I am forced to use the live view of my 80D which instead does not miss a shot. The focus is loud, slow, inaccurate and unreliable for portrait shooting and video shooting. The lack of the stabilizer is not a big flaw, but it could have come in very useful... And finally, I would say that because of only 7 slats, you can't expect a blurry at L-series levels, but hell, the blurry, especially at the edges, is very nervous, looks choppy and not blurry... this lens suited me when I started shooting, now for serious work I am inclined to switch to 35mm f2 IS USM and 85mm f1.4 IS USM L.

Pros: good resolution. Economic. tolerates the backlight well. pleasant bokeh.

Cons: I'd like to find other similar optics at similar prices.

Opinion: I bought this optics because I read the MTF tests and I didn't think they could be true. I have to say I was wrong. it looks like I'm doing a review at Canon but it's not. I loved it. it's versatile and performing. sharp enough. little perspective distortion. for about 100 euros you could not have hoped for better. doesn't suffer from the backlight. honestly, if I could find other optics of this class that are equally performing but of different optical lengths I would buy them right away.

Pros: Quality/price, size and weight, sharpness, silent AF, no AC and little distortion

Cons: As light as it is, it doesn't give the impression of solidity (but as much as it costs..), AF not always accurate

Opinion: I bought this 50mm to get a cheap portrait lens for my Canon M50. Tested with classic adapter (80mm equivalent) and speedbooster (56mm effective and f 1.2 MAX). Impressive sharpness for the price it has, new and used. Ridiculous size and weight, it occupies the same space as a lampshade in the bag. STM engine very quiet but unfortunately in several shots I noticed an AF not very precise (several front and back focus) and on mirrorless should be even more precise no (?). Opening 1.8 which makes it very bright and suitable even for shots with little light. Also tested with f1.2 speedboosters, starting with excellent original sharpness, at f 1.2 gets a super bokeh, lots of incoming light and a sharpness still acceptable for web use. Recommended for portraits, although in hindsight, I might have opted for the 40mm 2.8 STM, to have a wider field of view. Both at 80mm and 56mm actual I find it a bit too tight to be used in any other context.

Pros: Quality/price ratio, autofocus accuracy, sharpness

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: It was one of the first lenses I bought to match my 500D. From the beginning (compared to the lens kit 18-55 to which I was used) I noticed a clear difference in the quality of the images (despite the 500D of its not being a professional camera). I really like the quietness of the autofocus, the precision and the pleasant bokeh. Of course maybe at f/1.8 is a little soft (at least the sides), but already a f/2 gives excellent images. When I took my first FF (a Canon 5D classic, used) I almost always used it on this full frame, they seemed made for each other. It should be remembered that it is not tropicalized, nor can it reach openings of f/1.4 or even f/1.2, but for this it is necessary to spend ten times as much. In summary, it's a great lens to start making portraits (on APS-C) or as a classic nifty-fifty on full frame. If you still have doubts, buy it, you will not regret it.

Pros: Bokeh, price, size, minimum focus distance

Cons: STM engine

Opinion: Very cute lens, I would say almost mandatory to buy when you want to test the first fixed focal lens. Very small, well built and low priced. Returns very nice photos thanks also to the f1.8. and the minimum focus distance that, unlike the other 50mm you can compare, is shorter. This allows you to take photos of small objects or details. I would only use it more often if it was more reliable. The STM engine of my model after a few months of use began to not focus properly and then noticed a certain back focus.

Pros: Lightness, build quality

Cons: AF and sharpness not up to other fixed STM targets.

Opinion: Taken from alternating with the 24mm STM on APS C Canon 200d, I decided to replace it after a while in favor of the 40mm STM lens. I preferred the latter in the end because it was sharper and faster in focus, with a good blur even for portraits. Despite the greater aperture of diaphragm 1.8 of the 50 STM, compared to 2.8 of 24 and 40, even in low light conditions i was not entirely satisfied. Good lens suitable for portraits but less for family scenes or among friends with more people.

Pros: Metal Bayonet, image quality

Cons: Soft to TA, autofocus does not live up to the other STM

Opinion: Used both on APS-C and on FF, it returns good images and has a nice fuzzy. Being a "cheap" lens do not use it at full aperture, unless you make a portrait centered and not be maniacs of sharpness, you will be disappointed. At F2 it already starts to give its best and pulls out a pretty good personality for a €100 lens. Good construction and metal bayonet. Not good autofocus. I do not understand how among the various STM there is a performance gap so obvious: the 18-55 is accurate, silent and instantaneous, the 24 is normal, the 50 is slow, there is little to do. Then as all fixed Canon has a distance of MAF slightly too long, you have to be careful in the portraits to not get too close. For the rest it is worth the money spent.

Pros: Good sharpness (when focusing), nervous but agreeable bokeh in certain situations, very low price.

Cons: Autofocus so indecent even in full light (at least on my specimen) to make me abandon the Canon brand forever.

Opinion: A lens that has given me so many satisfactions and problems. It brought me closer to the world of portrait photos. I enjoyed the bokeh in the presence of foliage and the noticeable sharpness, at least on APSC. However it has been a source of continual dissatisfaction with the abnormal amount of shots to throw because it does not in focus, so much on Canon 1200d as on Canon 80d. A random focus. I was in Canon a lens so poor in terms of autofocus I would not even sell it, because it makes people escape from the brand. I may have an unfortunate specimen. Anyway, past water. Now I use a mirrorless with the Eye AF and all the shots are always in focus.

Cons: Despite being a f/1.8 little brightness being a fixed 50mm.

Opinion: Personally I was looking for a 50ino from the affordable price to have fun with the blurry and staying in the house Canon I would say that this was a great buy, gives great blurred, but after a few tens of shots already you realize to be tight in his F/1.8 and not You do miss the desire to buy an F/1.4. The price compared to its quality is still unbeatable and matchless to date on other brands.

Cons: I am not completely convinced of the STM system

Opinion: There was a nice step forward compared to version 1.8 II. The plastic bayonet has finally been eliminated, it has been switched to 7 blades and even the focusing system is improved though. Cons: Just a little slow AF in quick shots, but on the other hand great for video.

Opinion: A real surprise! Taken because it remained without focal (sold Canon EF 24-70mm F/4 L IS USM). Amazing shots at 1/4000 sec. At 200 ISO... though! Honor to the producer. Pros: sharpness, brightness, price/performance ratio

Cons: No obvious

Opinion: Purchased for whim to replace the 1.8 II; From the optical point of view very similar but the new 7 blades of the diaphragm give a blurred less edgy, you can approach more to the subject and I find it slightly more defined. As construction is blatantly more solid, it no longer has that noise of scrap metal when it focuses and less uncertainty. In General It is a lens to have almost a requirement for what it costs.

Cons: MAF a bit noisy

Opinion: Lens purchased used for €80 with 6 months of life, I use it with adapter on A6300 and I must say it does its job very well. It's not the 50 1.2, this is clear, but at the price it costs better maybe it's hard for this focal. I am an amateur landscsta/street, then more oriented to even extreme wide angles, but a 50mm according to me should not miss anyone, and this is really a great choice for those who want to spend little and take home very good shots in terms of IQ.

Pros: Price, brightness, focal, size

Cons: MAF, Materials

Opinion: There is little to write.... the cheapest lens of Canon home with a F 1.8 and compact size... In short, great for those who start and fun for those who are experienced. I had the old series, the 1.8 II, which I bought at the dawn of my passion and many were the satisfactions that I bought also the STM version. The latter I find it improved in every point of view but of course it remains a lens from about €100. At all open it is soft but appreciable, the focus (improved) is always quite slow but once you get it you can use it without any major problems. 50 mm on FF are a good all do though in the street I find them sometimes a little "tight" but great in the portrait where the lens returns good details and a blur from Vera BIG! Beware that on APS-C becomes 80mm then more dedicated to portraits and a little limiting on the rest. Honestly, unlike other reviews, I have not encountered great problems of flare or aberrations and still all solvable with a click in PP. Given the price I do not want to dwell on materials that obviously is all plastic though compared to Old model has gained the metal attachment flange. In conclusion is a great lens that Straconsiglio for those who start and suggest to evaluate to everyone else.

Pros: Price, brightness, speed and reliability autofocus, excellent sharpness to F4 across the frame APS-C, vignetting not visible on frame APS-C even at full aperture; On APS-C well-usable for portraits thanks to the proper focal and aperture and in the events thanks to the lightning-fast autofocus and precise

Cons: Chromatic aberrations at full opening, too small and light even on entry level body (the ergonomics improves a lot by buying a compatible lens hood); Less characteristic colors than the 28 F 1.8; Complete lack of references distances; Not born for manual focus

Opinion: On APS-C It is more suitable as an event lens that like everything to do (in many situations it is a bit long-approximately for every square meter it takes two away); Less characteristic colors than the 28 F 1.8; My specimen has maximum sharpness at F4 across the APS-C frame; Given the price and size I think it is worth having it in kit always and anyway both on APS-C and FF; Recommended

Cons: A little soft at the opening sometimes

Opinion: A small lens, without pretensions because of the reduced cost but that once mounted in the machine body left me stunned. It has a sharpness that I did not expect, already closing at f 2.8 becomes a blade. At full aperture it is sometimes a bit soft, but being careful to focus well the problem resolves. Cons: Nothing (at this price)

Opinion: It is a lens that for the cost it is sold has few rivals. We start from the limits that obviously there are: plastic, sharp but not too TA, manual focus is not intuitive... why not put them in the "cons"? Because the price you sell (to keep quiet of the used) in my opinion are not detectable flaws. But the pros are clearly more obvious, starting with the overall sharpness at almost all apertures beyond F4 (but already at 2.8 you can appreciate), the blurred pleasant, the warm colors, the fast AF (it is an STM), the handling seen encumbrances and weights and last but not Last for an opening (1.8) that saves you in many interior situations where there is a need for light (theatre, workshops, concerts etc.).

It costs very little and always returns excellent results, with beautiful colors and good sharpness. A f1.8 is not really a blade but already f2 up improves. Detach the subject from the background and it is there that opening the diaphragm at 2 - 2.2 gives a nice boker. beautiful colors and bright, I did some tests with my 17-55 2.8 canon placing at 50 obviously the same settings and the same photos are more beautiful and brighter and more detail (it's a fixed). With this lens you can do everything given its opening at 1.8, on aps-c you have an equivalent of about 85mm then come out of the beautiful portraits. I think it's hard to find reasons why not buy this lens, unless you have needs (and availability) that can be met by an L series lens, but that's a whole other league! Pros: Price. Brightness. Footprint. Peso.rn

Cons: Fullframe is a useless focus.

Opinion: It was my first optic. This, which is the third version, also has the metal attack so not bad. It's really light and has a zero footprint. It's f1.8 so shoot when you look and with a bokeh afraid. Little cost and being a fixed optic is a great way to learn how to manage composition. The only flaw is that in my view, on fullframe, 50mm is a really useless focal point. Too close to landscaping. Too wide to make portraits. On apsc becomes a 75-80 so perfect for portraits but on fullframe it's really limited. If you find it at 70-80 € take it but since you often pay it 110-130 €, keep some money for something else. AF fine but not very good. Turning back probably will take it back because as before, it allows you to spend a little more on the body without giving up standard goals but I could do it quietly. I therefore advise those who want to approach the world of photography to buy a good body machine leavingin the store the standard targets they propose (18-55 24-105) and buying this as the first lens of this. Opinion: What can I say, the quality that returns in comparison with the price deserves a 10 and praise. On full frame has a slight vignetting that corrects in pp, while on reduced sensor disappears. If you want a close-up portrait and a half bust on apsc this is ideal for the crop factor of 1.6 (Canon), with full frame use in the set portrait. I previously owned the 50 USM f / 1.4 which was unusable at TA, it was supposed to close at least af / 2 as the rest of the stm, so for about 100 euro I preferred stm with the hope that mom Canon updates the f / 1.4. The only blatant sin is when you mount the hood, if you want the manual focus becomes a location for the ring location near the hood. I also owned the Sigma 50 art sold by desperation not so much for the b / f focus but because of 10 photos taken I cestinavo 8, but when centering the maf undoubtedly is better than Canon. I read many recessions which it is stated that the 50 USM f / 1.4 is better than stm, maybe minecopy owned was one of those bad releases even if it was recently constructed, or my stm is a perfect output copy. rnBuy for the price of 100/120 euros to buy it you will not regret it.

If I wanted to be fussy, I find it very annoying, compared to previous versions, that an autofocus system has been created that does not fit automatically. Let's take an example, focus a subject, the lens moves and comes out of the lens body as it is right. Only if you turn off the camera remains in that position, to put it back in position, the camera is switched on, placed in the manual and a focus ring rotated to zero.

Pros: Price, quality, price, TA sharpness, autofocus, weight, size, overall performance

Cons: Nobody at this price

Opinion: I used both the mark II and the STM for a long time and I have to say that this version beats its predecessor on all fronts: construction, sharpness, autofocus, metal attack. Unlike Mark II, which was soft with open diaphragms, this lens is already very useful in TA. The blur is characteristic and pleasant. Autofocus pretty fast and silent, almost always accurate. Good contrast and nice colors. Used on 6D, 7D and 600D: on ff is a good handyman, on aps-c can be tight. It is a lens I recommend, especially to those who want to enter the world of fixed optics for the first time, considering the price affordable to everyone

Pros: Sharpness at f1.8, weight, precise focus, price

Cons: At this price ?!

Opinion: Really a pleasant surprise. Hot tones, clear already in TA, light as a feather. € 109 paid on Amazon, Canon Pass. Except I bought a third party hood at a cost of 6 euros. Ultimately, with 115 euros I have a fifty metal attack with reliable focus, which returns beautiful colors. I do not know what else I might ask.

Pros: Price, performance, good construction quality, weight and footprint.

Cons: It has no obvious defects ... then this figure.

Opinion: A fixed with such high quality at such a low price, it is a shame not to buy it. It's not as small as the 40 2.8 pancake but put it in the jacket pocket and at the right time does his work wonderfully. Between 1.8 and 2.5 the quality is more than good, 2.8 inches on a blade. The AF is fast enough. Obviously, those with different needs (greater aperture, bokeh and solid construction) must now look at the heaviest and most expensive Sigma Art or Canon 50L. I used it with my great satisfaction and married couples in two weddings.

Pros: In addition to performing the functions you would expect I must admit that it has a magic almost boken, which I greatly appreciated and that astonished me

Cons: At that price nobody

Opinion: Bought and used for 2 months now I only sold it because it is a circular check and after a disaster with another lens of my kit I needed to monetize. That said, I used it for 14 days in Cuba. Where I have ranged from street to portraiture, even just face as the Cubans are an extremely sociable people and approach very much without major problems. He has a magic boken almost! I was amazed. Let's say the best of you have it from f1.8 to 3.5 for my personal tastes. If you lose something you notice it in street photos. So I definitely recommend it to all the apsc holders who want to try out the portraits as they will not find a better lens even at a price 3 times as much. For those who own the real 50 is a whole thing to use in those days where lightness is of primary importance. If the photographic style likes the half-bust portraits then it is the lens it is for you. Ps the original hood is well done and I think it is very useful to reduce the inevitable flareBut it suffers, but nothing conditioning.

Pros: Autofocus, general rendering, price

Cons: The speech is valid on 5d3. Tested on the Canon 50D aps, the autofocus is less accurate, and the stamp and the overall rendering are not the same

Opinion: I waited a long time before writing this review, I have been using this lens for almost 2 years now, and I have owned the MkII version so I think I can describe in an objective way the advantages and disadvantages.rnIf I do not make a comparison with the previous version because Improvement has been abysmal in all points of view. The lens is very light and compact, this one being a pro, on the other, requires a minimum of attention because a lightweight lens tends to absorb vibrations and is easier Generate micromosus. The plastics, however, are good, nothing to do with the old version. The focus ring, if improved, remains a bit uncomfortable if it focuses in manual, especially with the hood mounted. However, the STM engine is silent and I have to say very precise (5d3, cross-side points). It's not easy to find the focus at 1.8 (especially if the subject is a bit far away) but I think this is the case regardless of allThe bright lenses, too often, in fact, are the fault of the lens.rnIt was the sharpness that struck the lens. If light conditions allow and if you've got the focus, TA photos are already clear. However, it is a delicate balance, just a light reverberation, a situation of little contrast that the sharpness at TA decays. However, I repeat, if everything goes as it should go, the lens is clear already in TA. Taking 2.2, the situation improves in the sense that in addition to increasing sharpness (the lens becomes quite sharp) it also increases the lens's ability to focus in difficult conditions. Of course, you give up a bit of bokeh, so depending on the situation you have to choose the best fit. RnThe bokeh I find it really nice and distinctive, confusing enough.rnPossiedo also the canon 85 f / 1.8 and the versatile 24-105 L, However, the lens is always my favorite, against any suggestion.rnTo finish the constancy of the results is the icing on the cake. The 50 stm will always be a snubbed lens,Of materials, weight, aperture limited to 1.8 and not last price. However after almost 2 years of use, I realize that it is only now that I am beginning to know this lens by succeeding in exploiting its qualities. RnCredo what really counts Both the feeling that you have with your equipment, having a more expensive 50 does not guarantee a better result if you fail to figure out how to take full advantage of it. Then say, a great lens at an exceptional price

I also have a sigma C series, 18-200mm stabilized, which admirably carries out his work, but - of course - there is no comparison between the two approaches in terms of sharpness and brightness. Cons: Do not use it.

Opinion: I bought back this view after selling the old 50mm 1.8 II model, which means the previous version did not have surprised me, at least on APS-C (650D), was slow and noisy, this new 50mm 1.8 STM version was immediately struck by its quietness and speed of focus, also at least by the first shots I made gained greater sharpness and blur even at TA. It 'also improved construction that the bayonet metal which makes it very compact and well built with icing on the cake that goes from 5 to 7 diaphragm blades which makes a big difference that produces beautiful brokeh that will make you fall in love. What is a perspective that has been improved from all points of view, and that in some ways is even better than the big brother 1.4 (unlike unjustified price). Cons: For now, very few, maybe some aberration too, but manageable later.

Opinion: I got a little bit out of the way (I paid 90 € with almost all the remaining warranty, with UV hood and UV filter Kenko PRO1D), and having had its predecessor I can safely say that money is spent very but very well. Already moving from a 5-lane diaphragm to one to 7 makes a big difference; Out of focus I find it much more beautiful and less aggressive than the previous one. The metal bayonet and the more silent AF engine are the icing on the cake for a look that is worth much more than it costs. Sharpness is "decent" at TA and dramatically improves diaphragm ... but if I buy a 1.8 optic is because i want to use it at 1.8; To TA is a bit soft, but easily compensated with some of the contrast mask. From 2.2 onwards is definitely great.rnIn this case it is worth saying "is worth more than what it costs". In conclusion, for me, it's a little jewel to have and it can give you some satisfaction.

Although built in plastic, it experiences a better quality compared to 1.8 II. The metal attachment completes the best impression of solidity. Pros: Compact, Af fast, crisp, economical

Cons: Af a bit noisy, it does not have the full-time manual focus

Opinion: My first "fifty", already mounted from the first time on a FF as the 6D, gives detailed stunning images with beautiful colors. A lightweight and economical small goal, which really is worth more than it costs. Af fast, accurate (perhaps a bit noisy), 1.8 is very clear, in fact I always use the diaphragm fully open, also because it has a bit of vignetting, which gives the picture a poetic effect that I love very much. Who does not like vignetting can easily remove it with photoshop. Value very important that I have noticed in this 50mm which is very easy to use, because with this you do not have the problem that the diaphragm fully open you have to be careful and stop shooting because otherwise the picture will be out of focus, (as with certain objectives), with this aim pictures instead are consistently sharp points where the focus. I also compared with 50 1.4 of a friend, and the differences that I noticed compared to 1.8 are just a better built, better bokeh and full-time manual focus. Apart from these little things, the 1.8 is much sharper and faster nell'autofocus. If you must take a 50mm canon, take this jewel, forget the 1.4, and dare I even say the 1.2 many say that goals are hard to use, but I consider that this difficulty is given only by the fact that they are unclear on objectives and imprecise in FA, and more expensive.

Pros: accurate focusing -leggerezza- excellent sharpness from 2.8 up

Cons: nothing to report

Opinion: improved in the focusing is fast and accurate even in low light. lightweight and comfortable. 1.8 and 'slightly soft but can' be an advantage for ritratti.rnda 2.8 up: and 'crystal clear. excellent bokeh. paid 140 euro from rce. quality 'price' amazing. in conclusion, 'a target walking ideal for its leggerezzarnluminosità and quality' image. I wanted to include one of my first shots af 1.8 "look I touch pins" to assess the sharpness to the focal. Hello

Pros: Construction, bokeh, sharpness

Cons: None

Opinion: Finally it has been updated. Bayonet metal, more solid construction and with the addition of the system stm has become even more silent. Without a shadow of doubt, a great lens to have in the bag. 7 sipes fuzzy softer and more "round". The focus is much more accurate than its predecessor and takes away. It decreased the distance of focus. Beautiful!

Pros: Excellent sharpness, quiet af.

Cons: Too light, moreover, for what it costs nothing could be better.

Opinion: B just a great goal at a ridiculous price, definitely with better performance of similar lenses of the same focal length but much higher price, a good target cost of a hood and two original caps, not bad.

Pros: Sharpness F1.8 - fast AF precise and quiet - Bokeh pasty - Minimum focus distance - weight, size, portability

Cons: For the price that you can not blame defects

Opinion: After a disastrous experience with the Sigma 50mm f1.4 (not ART) and a good experience with the Canon 50 f1.8 Mk 2, I decided to go to 50 STM. Well, what about ... I found the peace of mind !! rnrnIl little guy has covered thoroughly every deficiency of its predecessor with a leap incredibile.rnrnEsteticamente and touch plastics are more pleasant, the bayonet is made of metal, the ring AF can be defined as such (who drive the Mk 2 know what I mean ;-)), the AF is nicer and more complex there is under the impression of a goal giocattolo.rnrnL'AF is the real big jump Quality, not only much, much quieter but also far more accurate. A f1.8 not miss a beat !!!! rnrnA optical level I noticed that the sharpness at the center improved significantly, almost 2/3 stop. Also the 7-blade return a Bokeh softer and more pleasant and the flare is much smaller and gestibile.rnrnUltimo but not least, the minimum distance of focus of 35 cm allows you to get very close to the subject with creative possibilities aumentate.rnrnPer me it is a wonderful lens that next without delay and sense of inferiority to my kit series L 17-40 and 24-105 100-400. rnrnBest Buy ASSOLUTOrnrnGrande CANON !! rnrn

Pros: Better construction than the previous model, AF definitely improved and quiet, also improved to TA, value prezzo.rn

Cons: for now and saw the price I would say no one apart from the cost of the lens hood.

Opinion: Definitely improved over the previous version. Now finally the AF module hooks and not butt constantly going back and forth doing impazzire.rnanche construction seems to have improved thanks to bayonet metal and also as a whole. It also enhances the blurred thanks to the 7-blade. Now finally there is also a manual focus ring worthy of the name! Rnil sound is definitely more pleasant, the model mkII was something unbearable ..... rnper this price is absolutely a lens recommended! Rn

Pros: Construction, .stm and 7-blade than the old 1.8 mk2. Excellent sharpness at full aperture, precision and speed af.

Cons: F noise, I thought it was quiet as the other models stm (see 10-18).

Opinion: Surely there is something different than the mk2. The autofocus is definitely one of those things that have improved markedly. Finally a af that is accurate and fast although a bit noisy as compared to 10-18. Construction and materials of another planet than ever to the mk2 version plasticky. Current price and excellent sharpness improved already at f1.8. Chromatic aberrations more attenuated thanks to new lens coating.

Pros: Good sharpness at f1.8, f4 in very high by then. AF quiet and fast, pleasing Bokeh. Bayonet metal

Cons: Focus at close range that sometimes does not hook quickly. Hood and expensive measures (49mm) different from the previous ones

Opinion: Optical razor sharp f4-f5.6-f8, f2.8 and a sharper, more interesting, good sharpness even at F1.8. rnNegli years I've owned many ... Sigma 50mm f1.4 no ART, f1.4 canon, nikon f1.8, f1.8 and sony, the focal similar, comparing the various pictures I find it clearer ... the amount of Sigma F1.4. Less aberration Canon f1.4 and slightly sharper in f1,8.rnPer regarding the mechanical quality, I think it is on a par with 40mm stm, so good. Focus fast and quiet, you lose a little 'to the very short distances (20-30 cm) but nothing detrimental. Blurred very pleasant. rn

Pros: Bokeh improved, silent AF and fast enough, sharpness, price

Cons: (In my case) the graft was not initially very fluid, softness in TA

Opinion: Just bought, is appreciated than its predecessor for a construction best (best plastic and bayonet metal instead of plastic), the ring of manual focusing is much improved and is now a true nut, was virtually absent in the predecessor. The STM autofocus is fast and very quiet, has good sharpness but is a little morbdo to TA. the first coupling to the machine was not very fluid, perhaps because the goal was new, already the third / fourth time you screwed more fluidly. I paid 139 Euros, I did not expect the sharpness of 1.4, but makes her look good. Prefer this to the old 50mm f / 1.8 II? Optically it is similar, but the answer is: Yes, the 7-blade (instead of 5) return a lot nicer bokeh bokeh polygon of the old '1.8 II (pentagonal), the autofocus no longer crrrrr-zzzrr- cccrrr, and there will seem to have in hand a piece of plastic vuoto.rnPS: the dimensions are "improved", in the sense that this has a lesser length (39mm vs 51mm), but a weight of 30 gr higher (160 vs 130)
