Pros: Sharpness, constant f4, tropicalization, blurred with 10 slats, silent and fast focus, contained distortion and aberration, 4 stop stabilization.

Cons: Slightly the weight, the chromatic aberrations and the lower sharpness at the edges with wide-angle millimeters and TA. It weighs a lot, and the price lately is a bit too high... having spent almost 1500€ plus 2000 for the 5D Mark IV weighed on me in every sense.

Opinion: Excellent all-rounder L series, robust and performing, without "wow" effect, but certainly good in all aspects, those who can not sin. If you want to take with you only one lens this is the right one: it is good for both portraits and general photos, the millimeter and the constant f4 aperture guarantee good versatility, combined with a good autofocus, an excellent stabilizer and a very good sharpness, even at the edges from f5.6 upwards. Chromatic aberrations and distortion acceptable, and completely correctable in postproduction, surprisingly pleasant bokeh, perhaps also thanks to the 10 slats! Combined with the 5D Mark IV, and for now never again detached. Even if they weigh so much...! A full 9.

Pros: Versatility, latest generation IS, fast, precise and silent MAF, Construction/robustness/tropicalization.

Cons: None, considering that weight/cost/bulk are justified. Maybe the cost is slightly excessive, maybe it could cost 10-15% less.

Opinion: I wanted Canon's best all-rounder zoom, and I'm increasingly convinced that this is. Until the last I racked my meninges between this and the 24-70 f/4 IS USM, in the end I chose this simply because the 24-70 stops at 70mm, and I would have found myself with a "hole" between 70 and 100mm, considering that I have the 100-400 "L" in my sights, and also that pseudo-macro function of the 24-70 does not interest me. In the meantime I cover the medium-telephoto/tele focal lengths with the fabulous white 70-200mm f/4 "L", which is clearly higher than this from 70mm onwards, but I do not always have the time necessary for the canonical procedure "turn off-machine/remove-optics/put-optics/turn on-machine" (and then vice versa), either for the material time, or for the weather weather (wind / sand / beginning of drizzle and the like), you want because there are those cases for which going out with only one lens is convenient and preferable. I specify that I deliberately waited for this couple of months abundant shots, before launching into this review, which I now consider unequivocally more reliable. I emphasize that I mount this optics on 6D MarkII, that for the haste to take it the kit (ca. 3 years ago) with the counterpart 24-105 f / 3.5-5.6 STM because my shopkeeper did not have available the similar series "L". The differences I found?... the STM to be honest is not bad, indeed (at that price and weight then), I must admit that I was surprised in positive the fast AF and the latest generation IS, but the thing that bothered me was the variation of the maximum aperture of the aperture as the focal length changed: the STM at 50mm already goes to f / 5, at 70mm it already goes to f / 5.6, and this, especially indoors and / or with little light (as you also know well) is not ideal, while I love to work in priority of aperture and definitely prefer a diaphragm with constant maximum aperture. With hindsight I can say that this (in comparison to the STM) is much more solid, tropicalized, the AF is slightly faster, the sharpness is higher, not so much in the center of the frame (the other is also excellent) as in the mid-frame and especially in the periphery of the frame, and also I notice more vividness and fidelity in the colors. I call it a N.Q.B. (Sharp Enough), because it is clear that if at 35mm I want the "maximo" of sharpness I mount the 35mm f/ 2 IS USM (as in general the fixed ones are always sharper than the zooms at a specific focal length), or after the 70mm I mount the "white", if such changes I consider necessary and I have the time, otherwise, this is a great optics at almost all focal lengths. WEIGHS?... I don't think it weighs too much: we are talking about a tropicalized 4x with a latest generation IS, and all the "L" series, as such, weigh (the 24-70 f/ 4 IS "L", for example, which stops at 70mm, weighs only 195gr. less, and is shorter, with two groups of lenses less and one lamella of diaphragm less). COAST?... all "L" series cost, and for obvious reasons. In short, last but not least, my vote is a full 9.3. Objectively speaking.

Pros: Tropicalization, stabilization, weight, constant f4, AF

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: Purchased as a handyman so as not to have a lot of different lenses, I liked it right away. Good construction, right weight, sharpness much more than satisfactory. The stabilization amazed me, coupled with my 5d iv allowed me to shoot freehand. It must be specified that I resold it, I switched to the Tokina 50mm 1.4 opera (guys who lens) and to the Tamron 70-210 f4. If f4 constant suits you I do not see defects in this lens, perhaps the price from new, but on the used is also at 700, a figure for me more than reasonable.

Pros: f4 constant on all focal lengths

Cons: everything else

Opinion: I purchased this goal, new, on the net and after reading and rereading numerous excellent reviews and having thought about it for a long time... what to say? Hooked to my 80D maybe I happened to have a faulty model but for me bad in everything... bulky, heavy, supplied with a hideous case and to be honest ugly even aesthetically... Soft to f4? Yes, too much! As well as f5.6 up to f9... Bad bokeh! Bad AF! Horrible in my opinion ergonomics... not soft the ring of the focals and just as rigid that of the manual maf.... in short, I just couldn't find a feeling and I made it after a few days out of despair! Replaced excellently with the 24-105 Sigma art... to calibrate, it's true... but it's a whole other world!!!

Pros: Excellent quality.

Cons: nobody

Opinion: I bought it years ago because I couldn't afford the f2.8 version. Never well spent money. Wonderful lens to do everything, excellent especially for portraits. Fantastic colors and great details. Used in many shotting and private shots, it never disappointed me. From Aps-c to FF itself color rendering. I didn't mind the 24mm vignette, I also added it on LR.
