Qatari Ceremony

Erano circa le 18. Il sole ormai tramontato da più di un'ora. Guidavo stancamente dopo una giornata lunga e di assoluta solitudine. l'ampio spiazzo di solito deserto, poche centinaia di metri prima della stazione di servizio, si è trasformato in una festa. Luci, tende, tappeti e falò. Accosto. Mi avvicino alle due alte colonne in pietra che segnano l'ingresso. Due guardie siedono chiacchierando tra loro. E' una festa privata? Chiedo. Si, ma sei il benvenuto, prego. Ringrazio ed entro. Appena il tempo di sorseggiare una tazza di tè e iniziano le danze. Sarà solo in un secondo momento che scoprirò trattarsi di un matrimonio (la festa per lo sposo, solo uomini dunque). Terminata la festa riprendo la strada di casa. Doha è completamente paralizzata dai festeggiamenti: oggi è il National Qatari Day.
