Hesperiidae 01

Gli Esperidi (Hesperiidae Latreille, 1809), sono una famiglia di insetti dell'ordine dei Lepidoptera, conosciuti in inglese con il nome comune skippers. Ci sono più di 3.500 specie descritte di Hesperiidae, distribuite in tutto il mondo, ma il maggior grado di biodiversità si riscontra nella regione neotropicale. Le Hesperiidae sono farfalle di piccole dimensioni la cui apertura alare in genere varia dai 2 agli 8 centimetri e con colori (nelle specie nostrane) non molto vivaci, generalmente arancioni o marroni, macchiettati di bianco o nero. Possono riconoscersi per la testa massiccia, l' ampia separazione alla base delle antenne che terminano con una lunga clava ricurva e appuntita, il corpo voluminoso, tozzo e peloso, grandi occhi composti e le ali anteriori piuttosto corte e triangolari che permettono loro di avere un volo rapido e sfrecciante. Le zampe anteriori sono completamente sviluppate e funzionanti in entrambe i sessi.
