Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Jebo

nikon_d200Nikon D200

Pros: * Very well made * Authentic photographic experience * Excellent image quality when used with good lenses * Real film like colours * Works with ai and ais lenses

Cons: * Not for inexperienced photographers * Wheight (which is also an advantage)

Opinion: Bought mine from a pro about 3 years ago with 2600 clicks for 120 euros out of curiosity. Already had positive experiences with the D700 after a Canon 80 d and Nikon d3200 and so on. Have been an amateur photographer since 1972. Did not like the computerized cameras and plastic lenses. Tried Fuji but these are also very computerized. I liked the colours more than that of the D700 and it is also a bit lighter and smaller. When used with vintage ai and ais lenses you have to acknowledge that a 28 mm becomes a 42 mm, a 50mm a 75 mm and so on. First I used it with cheaper zoom lenses like the 28-85mm AF nikkor and the 18-140mm. This gives useable results but I thought it could still improved and decided to invest in a 17-55 f2.8 nikon just to use on this camera.Together they are a great combo. Sharpness is now on pas with modern CMOS cameras with plastic lenses. Camera performs best at iso between 100-200. This is no problem if you use faster lenses. The wheight helps to get good shots around 1/30 s. I use the camera only in RAW with lightroom. I you use the camera specific profiles you will see that the exposure gets better and that the greens are more natural. Contrary to modern cameras you don't need to underexpose but can leave the setting at zero or even overexpose a bit. Autofocus is excellent! Image quality to me overall is better than that of the D7200 which gives a more digital look. Hope you found this review helpful!
