olympus_omd_em5Olympus OM-D E-M5

Pros: Stabilization of the sensor, Burst two thresholds up to 9 shots / sec, JEPG clean and brightly colored, well-workable RAW and with an excellent dynamic range, high output up to 800ISO and good until 3200ISO, size and weight, adjustable monitor , autofocus in live-view and contrast among the best (2012), fully customizable via the menu, tropicalization.

Cons: Park optics limited and lack of remote lights, bizarre and unintuitive menu, AF does not work with gusts greater than 5 shots / sec, difficulty MAF manual in case of very low light and with heavy use becomes tiring holding it.

Opinion: A great car the E-M5. Over the years I have passed under the hands of virtually all machines m4 / 3 manufactured by Panasonic and Olympus and I can say that this little gem is a step forward at all, but from here to say that it can replace a DSLR use professional there passes. I would like to do a little analysis starting right on the image quality, which is really very high, I would say easily on par with a 7D. A FF as the 5DMKII manages to pull off some shade more, but we're talking about subtleties. JPEG files are clean, bright colors and pleasant, the RAW instead need a good pass to PP but you can also recover photos heavily underexposed. Worthy of note is the excellent work on the sensor (made by Sony) for the noise reduction: up to 800ISO there is no difference with a 5DMKII (I did not think the images of DPReview and instead I had to change my mind). However, even in 3200ISO the grain is not annoying and you can easily removewithout losing too much detail. Above ... only for emergencies. As far as the mere mechanical performance, the award is up to the EVF / live view: really great. Even in low light there are no trails or false color and, except take pictures in a dark room or the stars at night, making it virtually impossible to focus, there is no difference with the pentaprism viewfinder of an SLR. Excellent also the burst, not only for the maximum speed of 9 FPS, but also for the fact that is customizable with two thresholds, whose value of FPS can be set using the menu. The contrast AF instead of suffering in some situations (subject to uniform color, strong backlight, low light), but in other cases it is very fast and accurate. If conditions are optimal then the MAF is almost instantaneous without hesitation. A sore point is that it is disabled in the burst faster than 5 FPS, and sports photos for the E-M5 is sconsigliata. At the software level, the menu is chaotic and not very intuitive, but it allows the customization of almost all physical buttons on the machine. For me, also its greatest value (miniaturization) is also a drawback: the controls are very close and intensive use is not a simple press of a button at a time, especially with their own hands by little woman Japanese. In conclusion, it is a great car but the lack larger than a traditional SLR camera is the optical park: but the last fixed zooms are still at the "amateur". I hope that the two objectives announced by Panasonic (the 12-35 f/2.8 and the 35-100 f/2.8) arrive early and do not betray the expectations. Then again, in my opinion, can not replace a reflex "profescional" as 7D, 5D, 1D or worse. But for street, Sunday outings, evenings with friends or family is perfect.
