sony_a9Sony A9

Pros: Light, easy to handle, very fast, spectacular AF, remarkable buffer considering the age of the camera, battery life.

Cons: No sensor protection when the machine is switched off for lens change, screen mobility.

Opinion: I took it for nature photography (especially birds) and combined with the sony 200-600 it goes which is a wonder. The AF is fast and accurate. It's brilliant to be able to program the telephoto function button in the car: I keep it set to wide zone tracking, since I almost always use the expanded flexible spot, so in case of sudden passages in the free field I just have to press, point and focus! ;-) Well made, solid, well sealed, customizable well beyond my needs, the perfect camera for those who want to photograph moving subjects and being an amateur cannot or do not want to afford an A1 or an A9 III. By the way, with the LA_EA5 adapter, you use the SONY A mount SSM lenses as if they were FE, my Sony ZA 24-70 f2.8 SSM works better with this than with the A77 I had before! P.S. I've never been able to understand why sony didn't immediately switch the brilliant articulated screen of the A77/A99 to the mirrorless series, which was not at all delicate and only now, years later, is returning to the new models (but I don't know if it's the same system). This is just fine for taking photos flush with the ground looking at the cockpit.

Pros: Very nice and workable files, excellent dynamic range, noise not annoying even when present at rather high ISO. Second-hand price.

Cons: Battery life, slow operation, low light and low contrast autofocus.

Opinion: I took this camera as a second body, mainly for portraits, landscapes, macro and street. So the cons listed (but I already knew it) are not or are not a problem for the use I make of them. I consider it a meditation camera, let's say. I have to say that the quality of the files it churns out impressed me a lot, I immediately had a great feeling. I have to say that I mainly used it with the Zeiss FE 50 f1.4 with which it is difficult to take bad photos. I made some comparisons with my A9: same lens, same settings, same subject. The photos are apparently identical, but those taken with the R2 seem more defined and yet "softer". Going up with the ISO it gives me the impression that this is less aggressive, at least to my taste. Basically, a machine that can still give great satisfaction if it is used in the areas for which it was designed, at a truly affordable cost by looking a little.
