Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Petervdh

canon_100-400iiCanon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM II

Pros: Extremely sharp and contrasty, excellent IS, fast accurate focusing and minimum focusing distance. Adapts well to the Canon 1.4x III tele-converter.Cons:

Cons: Occasional purple fringing on high-contrast subjects. Tripod collar not removable. Expensive in South Africa @ ZAR 39,695-00.

Opinion: Very well thought out lens from Canon. I emediant love the lens when I first used it. Being a non push pull zoom keeps ones hand in the same position for better stabilising the lens. I had the version 1 with which I was not happy with. It can be a bit short at the long end for photographing wildlife and birds but it pairs well with the newest 1.4 converter from Canon.
