panasonic_100-300ois_iiPanasonic Lumix G 100-300mm f/4-5.6 II OIS

Pros: Excellent quality/price ratio - small size and weight - solid structure.

Cons: No bracket for tripod mount.

Opinion: It is a lens that is typically purchased to have something cheap, light and space-saving, to be used freehand outdoors, accepting the idea of having to sacrifice brightness and performance in favor of portability. With use, however, it turns out that practically nothing has been sacrificed: the image quality holds its own against lenses of similar focal length, more than double the price and almost triple the weight. The minimum focusing distance is enough to photograph butterflies and dragonflies (my favorite subject) in full frame with excellent definition. The construction is solid and accurate and the low price gives so much serenity in casual use on the field ... The stabilization is excellent, which makes you forget the absence of the tripod bracket. Absolutely recommended lens!

rollei_c6iRollei C6i

Pros: Excellent value for money. Small size when closed. Accurate finishes, excellent overall mechanical quality. Built-in monopod.

Cons: Head suitable for light/medium loads only. Somewhat reduced stability when fully extended.

Opinion: Taking into account the price (just over 80 Euros) it is certainly a good purchase. I have been using it for a few months with satisfaction. Closed it can be easily crammed into a backpack or inside a suitcase, it also fits in a motorcycle side bag. As long as possible, it is better not to extend the last segment of the legs (the thinnest) to have more stability. It can withstand equipment up to 2 kg well, above this weight the ball head begins to give way, but if you limit yourself to a support in a vertical axis (avoiding for example pointing it towards the ground) it can also support a fairly heavy canvas. The 12 kg (!) indicated by Rollei seem to me to be decidedly optimistic. The possibility of disassembling a leg to use it as a monopod is interesting. However, dismantling it takes a little too long to be able to exploit it in the field.

manfrotto_xpro_bhq6Manfrotto XPRO - BHQ6

Pros: Reasonable price, lightness, well-doseable clutch

Cons: Slower plate "fast" hooking than other systems

Opinion: I have been using this ball head for 6 months and I appreciated its general characteristics and build quality, in particular the smoothness of the sphere, which allows fluid movements and not in jerks, even with high loads. The hooking of the plate is two-stroke: it rests on the support and hooks with a click, but it must also be fixed by tightening the appropriate knob, otherwise the plate can move (dangerously!) to the side, but can not be removed. The release requires the reverse operation: you loosen the knob and hold down the red button to release. Overall it works well, but requires a bit of apprenticeship to be fast.

tokina_35macroTokina AT-X Pro 35mm f/2.8 Macro DX

Pros: Strength and overall build quality, optical quality, brightness, quality / price ratio

Cons: Autofocus a bit 'slow and noisy.

Opinion: For those, like me, prefer the shorter focal length macro acclimatized (relatively short, on an APS is pretty much a 50 mm) of this lens is an excellent solution. The lens is small, almost pocket, you can put in your bag without any problems and in some conditions (such as shots on the ground to moving insects) is truly unmatched. The optical quality is excellent: I have not run tests supertecnici, but comparing it to "hands on" with my Canon 100 f/2.8 macro I only noticed less contrast and less color saturation, easily recoverable in PP, but the resolution is very comparable, both in macro 1:1 with focus to infinity. The lens construction is very robust, shock-proof. The front lens is well protected by protruding frame and requires no lens hood. The focus ring is smooth and perfectly glazed. The autofocus is a bit 'slow and noisy, but adequately accurate. In my opinion it is a lens that is definitely worthwhat it costs.
