leica_dlux8Leica D-Lux 8

Pros: Superior build quality, presence of the viewfinder, colors, total usability in manual via the three ISO aperture time rings, good performance even in macro

Cons: Small file, high iso resistance, electronic zoom, small sensor, general slowness

Opinion: Definitely a machine that needs to be understood a bit, anachronistic in some ways especially on the sensor/megapixels side (a micro4/3 of 17 mpx usable at € 1600 in 2024 is quite embarrassing). The colors are however good as well as the general paste of the image which, however, does not lend itself to prints larger than 30x40. The electronic zoom is slow and imprecise, the old contrast autofocus does what it can but it is certainly not a splinter. The Leica menus are beautiful, minus the responsiveness of the processor... It would be a 21 megapixel but at most it uses 17, it would be a Leica but in fact it is a Panasonic, it would be perfect thanks also to the maintenance of the viewfinder where most of the competitors are removing it (it is not clear why) ...... in short, a huge, colossal WOULD be if only they had understood that even a € 100 smartphone gives a bigger file. With a 1" sensor with at least 24 megapixels on board, with a zooming lens that can be unlocked and controlled manually, a modern auto focus and a processor that does not run on charcoal, you would eat any ricoh or sony on the market hands down. €1600 is so out of tune with a car that has recently come out and with these pre-pandemic characteristics.
