![]() | Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Pros: Image quality, detail, customizable buttons, lens hood provided, shoulder strap provided, tropicalized, consistent price. Cons: Carrying bag not included, tripod ring not removable, AF distance limit switch not present Opinion: As a former owner of the EF 100-400 I find this lens more challenging to use due to its larger footprint and weight, but being well aware of this, I consider it a very high performance lens. The quality of the images that can be obtained are of the highest quality and well above 100-400 for sharpness. The build quality is good, comparable to the L-series, and the lens hood (which is by no means a given) and shoulder strap are provided. At full zoom the dimensions are remarkable, especially with the lens hood installed, but inevitable, considering the not indifferent focal length. The autofocus is good and fast, although in particular situations at 800mm I found it a bit inaccurate, probably due to the AF settings of the camera body. Combined with the R7 it churns out very detailed shots, even if in low light conditions the digital noise becomes quite evident (a relative problem, however, as with the new noise removal techniques via software it is possible to obtain clean images). In the barrel there are two freely assignable buttons, which can be configured according to your needs from the camera body. The autofocus distance limitation switch is not present. The tripod ring is not removable, and the locking screw is made of plastic material that does not inspire much solidity. The zoom friction ring never locks the barrel extension, even if it's all tightened, and there's always a chance it might move. As it is not an L series, the transport bag is not included and must be purchased separately (130 euros): I highly recommend it to safeguard the precious object during transport and excursions. Finally, this lens is practically impossible to find at the moment - I had to wait more than three months, with the dealer jumping through hoops to get it for me. The same goes for the transport bag. sent on July 03, 2024 |
![]() | Patona Platinum LP-E6NH Pros: The duration of the charge is equal, if not longer, to the original Canon batteries. Very honest price. Cons: Maybe a bit slow charging Opinion: Excellent replacement battery, never disappoints, even in conditions of intense cold. The charge time is even longer than the original Canon. Excellent compatibility, even in the indication of the remaining charge and with the use of the original Canon charger. The charging time seems a bit slower than the original Canon, but nothing serious. sent on December 01, 2022 |
![]() | Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM Pros: Good definition at almost all focal lengths, fast and accurate autofocus, relatively light weight, large focal range, excellent image stabilization. Cons: Medium quality construction, not tropicalized, lacks hood, lacks manual fire selector, distortion at 24mm, high price. Opinion: Economic lens with an important price: you can see almost immediately that it is built in economy, starting with the packaging of the box, but with the excuse that Canon prevents third-party manufacturers from producing lenses with the new mount, it allows it to offer medium quality products at exaggerated prices. Such a lens should be sold at 600 euros in my opinion, not 1000. The construction consists of a medium-low quality plastic that seems to be easily ruined, but we will see this with the use. For the use that is intended this lens, that is all-rounder and for travel, it would not be bad if it had been tropicalized. The switch to select manual fire is missing, although this is a marginal problem as far as I'm concerned. For the 1000 euros paid, you could also make a small effort to include the hood (it costs 15 euros of competition, Canon certainly less), useful accessory not only to reduce reflections, but also to protect the front lens. But it's not all a con to this lens: the relatively light weight and the large focal range will make it a faithful companion for mountain hikes and travel. The definition is very good at short and medium focal lengths, while towards the upper limit there is a slight loss of detail, but nothing serious. The autofocus is fast, precise and quiet. The optical stabilizer works in symbiosis with the sensor (for camera bodies equipped with a stabilized sensor) and is really very effective. The zoom dial has no backlash, and is pleasant to use; Maybe a bit too hard, but not a problem, and makes the zoom lock switch superfluous. Convenient is the freely assignable multifunction ring, which becomes the fire control if necessary (there is the selector to choose the control, but not the one to choose the manual fire). It should be noted that if you shoot in RAW, it is mandatory to correct the distortion in post production to 24mm (in jpeg the camera already does it automatically), otherwise you can admire the black border of the lens on the four corners. This is another potential lens defect, because the correction leads to a small loss of detail on the edges. In conclusion, the lens will certainly give me satisfaction, but at a somewhat expensive price for construction. sent on November 13, 2022 |
