canon_efs_17-85Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Pros: Zoom range, image stabilization, USM AF motor ring, solid

Cons: outdated model, distortion at short focal

Opinion: I received this light kit with my 50D. For me it is a perspective that makes his dirty job but nothing more. The stabilizer works well (you recover at least 2 stops). The USM motor is good and being ring allows you to be able to intervene even in manual mode, when working in af. Has a good strength and sufficient resistance to external agents. You can not ask to be excellent in all its operating range, otherwise we would be faced with a series L, another planet in fact. I have chosen especially for use in travel photography, street, with the opportunity to take advantage, however, not only a wide angle for landscapes but also a medium telephoto for portraits and details. I never had big problems with Chromatic Aberration, while actually the shorter focal you have some distortion, the more evident as it is in the presence of lines passing through the frame (horizons linear, vertical lines of buildings etc.). Vignetting can not find much exceptssiva, and I do not bother you, without considering that there are those who introduces her to mail in PP, when you do not have it :-). It 'sa f/4-5.6 so do not think that you buy just to make indoor photos, but if you use it mainly outdoors you will not have big problems. This is a view which is fine for a while everything is ok in some situations other just enough, and in some extreme cases it may be poor, you just know it and try to make the most of. It will not be this light your silver bullet, but certainly, if you need something like this and you can find used, in good condition and at a good price, you could come in handy.

canon_50dCanon 50D

Pros: Robust machine body, handle great, good burst, ease of use, completeness of commands (double wheel), AF micro adjustment (good for fixed focal lengths), good color rendering, good image quality

Cons: 95% coverage viewfinder, AF fast and accurate especially with optical quality (all points are cross only f 5.6 or less), high noise at high ISO (> ISO 1600), especially in light conditions difficle

Opinion: The 50D is my first DSLR and I was considering that as an analogue SLR Zenit, the technological leap has been remarkable :-). It is now two years that the use, not so frequently, I made him little less than 4000 shots, but I am very satisfied. Except kinds macro, still life and studio photography, my shots are very varied, nature photography, landscapes, architecture and interior / exterior, reportage, portraits. Use by a feeling of professionalism definitely higher than the series xxxD, in terms of robustness, usability and performance. The absence of sealing under conditions of normal use, you do not hear at all. I have used it in Argentina through the subtropical zone of the falls of Iguazu (high humidity, water spray from the falls and pioggierellina) to Patagonia (dust and wind), and also in Morocco (high temperatures, wind, sand and even drizzle) , and the car came out unscathed, I have not had the need to clean the sensor. Of course if you want topictures in the rain or the wind pointing their sand / dust, maybe it is better to think of a tropical (but in that case also targets must be). AF micro-adjustment I still have not ever used, although it uses the body even old optical Zenit Still, be aware that there certainly is an advantage. The AF I find it fast enough, unfortunately, to exploit it to the fullest and all the points are required optical quality, but currently I have not yet reached the limit. The 15-Mp sensor with high ISO can have a yield unsatisfactory especially when lighting conditions are poor. The yield, however, also depends on the format in which you are printing. The coverage of only 95% can give problems to get the best composition during shooting, however, to date where the use of the PP is now usual can also be a defect acceptable. Under conditions of adequate light, the machine generates a file with a good color rendering (directly in jpeg). The burst is more than satisfactory, they better just machines of superior category, is obviously also affected by the type of CF used. I cF with a 30 MB / second for now I'm fine. To conclude this machine I think is great for fans who, not being a beginner, want a good tool to cultivate their passion confronting any kind of photographic and in more general conditions. It 'obvious that in specific cases and applications for more professional is better but also to higher costs.
