sony_fe200-600Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS

Pros: I struggle to find cons

Cons: Not there for Canon

Opinion: I had this lens for the period I used Sony and now that I'm back to Canon I miss it a lot, not so much for the quality equal to the Canon 100-500, but for how it was made: internal zoom, going from 200 to 600mm with a small and fluid movement of the hand and all in all bright for a 600 that is used at 1200€; I have also used this lens with the 1.4x teleconverter and it is excellent. Now I'm back to Canon but every time I use the 100-500 (great image quality but as a construction it's light years from the Sony) I think of the 200-600 and it makes me want to go back to Sony.

sony_a7ivSony A7 IV

Pros: image quality, customizable keys, ISO tightness, ergonomics

Cons: Recognition of subjects in birdlife

Opinion: I switched to Sony (from Canon) before a photographic trip to Andalucia where I could love and hate this camera. The amount of customizable keys well identified on the body and the rear AF ON button well positioned and sized, are exceptional, as well as the resistance to high ISO really surprised me, I brought home a photo of the lynx taken in the dark and in the rain at 64000 ISO. Overall all the photos taken have really satisfied me, as well as the use of the camera. A sore point: the recognition of animals, especially birds, made me decide to return to Canon. The most difficult photo to take was that of an owl on top of a large oval rock in the middle of nowhere... There was no way to focus the owl, I had to focus by hand. Ditto for a ptarmigan crouching in a super-lit green meadow a few meters from me and for griffon vultures flying at my height a few tens of meters in the middle of a canyon. If the next A7 V solves these problems I will probably go back to Sony because I believe that as a camera body it is superior to Canon, also for the workability of the files and the possibility of customizing the keys in an intelligent way.
