![]() | Sony RX100 VII Pros: Extremely pocket-sized especially in relation to its performance: wide choice of focal lengths, 20fps burst, HFR up to 1000fps, processor and autofocus of a professional camera. Retractable electronic viewfinder. Customizability. Multifunction ring on the optical... I could go on for a very long time. Cons: Battery life. Cumbersomeness of the menu. Opinion: The RX100 VII is one of those cameras that already seem impossible on paper, but in real use they become almost disarming. It is very pocket-sized, really: it fits in a jacket pocket, yet it returns a perceived high quality, like a "serious" camera. The feeling is constant: I'm using something much bigger than it seems. The equivalent 24–200mm focal range is simply utopian in size and weight. You go from wide-angle to medium-telephoto without ever changing tools, without interrupting the flow, without losing the shot. It is a camera that invites you to photograph, not to think about what to mount. The heart is the 1" Exmor RS stacked backlit sensor: on paper it is not an APS-C, but in behavior it often is. In particular: the management of medium and high ISO is surprising, the micro-detail holds up better than expected, the noise is "intelligent", often more pleasant at higher ISO than at intermediate values. The stabilizer is just insane. Shots at 200mm equivalent to unthinkable slow times such as 1/15s. They are not an exception, but a constant. And that's where the RX100 VII stops being a compact and becomes a unique tool: it transforms the physical limit into real possibility. The autofocus is professional-grade, inherited directly from bodies such as the Alpha 9 and A7R IV: very fast, precise, reliable even in difficult conditions. Phase detection on the sensor is not marketing: you can hear it, see it, use it and above all appreciate it. The continuous 20fps burst is almost absurd for this category, as is the HFR up to 1000fps, which is not a gadget, but a pocket-sized creative lab. The retractable electronic viewfinder is an essential gem, the flash that can be directed towards the ceiling is a detail not to be underestimated ... I would say that the RX100 VII is a camera that breaks categories: it is not a "premium" compact, it is not a miniature mirrorless, it is a total camera, designed for those who want everything, always, everywhere. It's a camera you fall in love with not because it promises, but because it delivers. And when you realize that you're using it as a reference — even with respect to larger bodies — you realize that it's not just good: it's special. sent on December 23, 2025 |
