Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Pros: Construction, sharpness, f2.8, great all-rounder, silent AF and IS, stabilized. Cons: Considerable weight, sharpness at f2.8, dust extractor, no lock for the zoom ring. Opinion: I recently bought this lens for my Canon M50 at 280€ as new and I'm very happy with it, at f2.8 it's not very sharp but as soon as it closes to f4 it becomes almost a razor giving the best of sharpness around 35mm up to 55. Equivalent to a 27-88mm for FF it is an excellent all-rounder lens and perfect for traveling, but it is quite heavy and on smaller and lighter cameras you could unbalance the weight forward, plus walking with the camera over your shoulder the zoom ring tends to go forward therefore almost always being at 55mm, vice versa if held upwards you will always find yourself at 17mm. Another problem is the absence of tropicalization so a lot of dust can enter the barrel and end up in the middle of the glass, but you can't want everything. The stabilizer is very useful and allows me to shoot even at 1/10 handheld. You could say it's only for APSC but you know that before you buy it. sent on 05 Aprile 2026 |
