![]() | Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 Pros: Image quality, TA sharpness, weight and size, programmable keys, stabilization Cons: I would say the absence of internal zoom, to be picky also the absence of a tripod ring and a carrying bag Opinion: Fantastic lens, a really small footprint, a weight that does not bother for an excellent build quality and sharpness already at full aperture. The addition of stabilization compared to the previous version is a great plus, it allows you to shoot without too much effort even at 1/20-1/30. At 20mm less travel you get used to it, especially after you realize how much lighter and more bearable it is after long sessions. A very pleasant feature that further increases its versatility is the focusing distance, only 30cm at 70mm, excellent for arranging even some macros. Effective, silent and undisappointing autofocus, tropicalized body, 67mm filters, button to lock the zoom when closed, really overall a fantastic lens, considering the purchase price of about 950 used as new in April 2025. Certainly the counterparts sigma and sony have an edge, but it is difficult to justify them due to the difference in price. At the same cost there is the sony 70-200 f/4 which, in addition to losing at the start against the f2.8 of the tamron, at full aperture gives images in my opinion quite painful for the purchase price, with fairly poor sharpness especially on denser sensors of megapixels. Having been my first telehandler at sony, I am happy to have changed it for this tamron that satisfied me from every point of view, I recommend it to anyone who does not want to make extra expenses for sigma or sony sent on January 11, 2026 |
![]() | Sirui Aurora 85mm f/1.4 Pros: TA sharpness, build quality, compactness, 67 filters, bokeh, aperture ring, price Cons: Maybe the autofocus that performs well but doesn't excel especially with approaching subjects Opinion: Bought new from amazon in summer 2025 for about 390 euros, it arrived equipped with a rigid bag and two filters, UV and black mist. Excellent build quality, I really appreciate the metal bodies for the feeling they convey to the touch, also excellent insulation from dust and water. Despite the construction materials it is not excessively heavy, never caused discomfort even for long sessions. It churns out excellent images, sharp already at full opening, but I noticed a small detail (I don't know if it is related to my product or valid in general). Depending on the angle of incidence of the light, it seems in some contexts to create a slightly softer image, although the rendering of colors also remains the same and with good contrasts. But I notice this detail a lot because in most of the shots it is really sharp, to the point of making this occasional (and light) "softness" evident. The autofocus is not the most responsive but it performs very well, for portraiture and not fast chases it is more than enough, especially considering the price. Unlike other people who seem to have complained about it, I consider the aperture ring solid, I have never happened to rotate it by mistake during use, the possibility of making it declickable is also convenient. Purchase that left me very satisfied, if you do not have specific needs and are not looking for the top of the top, this lens is a perfect compromise of everything, vote 9 sent on January 11, 2026 |
![]() | Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB Pros: Aperture, very sharp already at TA, bokeh, build quality, tropicalized, double function button, convenient app for updating / customization, quality / price ratio at the moment unbeatable for the type of product. Cons: Small things, maybe weight and bulk (but which are not random), 77mm filter, sometimes I was betrayed by the Af on approach (shooting on a7riii it could be the fault of the slightly dated body) Opinion: I was missing a bright lens on this focal length having the sirui 85mm f1.4 and the tamron 70-180 f2.8 G2 in the kit. Found on amazon used as new, I was lucky enough to get it under 600 which I think allow me to call this lens absolute best buy. Even at full price (999) or considering the prices of other used ones (easily 800-850) I think it is an excellent purchase, based on the needs of the competition including the sigma 35mm f1.2 (new at 1500) and the sony 35mm GM f1.4 (new at a higher price than the sigma and used more reasonable on the 1200). The latter two still win for weight and size, with Sony in first place and Sigma following. However, comparing it with the top of the Sony range, the viltrox is sharper, greater sharpness over the entire frame, a better managed bokeh and more pleasant with the same lights, all at f1.2, against the Sony at f1.4. As for the autofocus, it has always behaved very well in pursuit, the 4 motors are very performing, as explained before there is some flaw in the approach but I'm sure it's the fault of the camera body, being the Sony A7R III now a bit dated. In speed and responsiveness it is at the level of the sony. In terms of sharpness as already explained it does not disappoint, sharp starting from f1.2, it has an extremely creamy and pleasant bokeh, at least in my opinion, plus almost non-existent chromatic aberration. The weight in the long run can be felt but you are rewarded by a considerable build quality, metal body with waterproof and dustproof design. The display may or may not be a sore point. Nice to have, nice as a feature but objectively superfluous. Even the fact that the aperture has a special ring to be controlled but is visible on the display makes it all a bit alienating, I prefer less digitization and more practicality from this point of view. In any case, this display has its own peculiarities such as the fact that by closing / opening the diaphragm, the depth of field is also shown on the screen. However, the double function button is convenient, also useful for locking the aperture ring, as well as the key to make its scrolling declickable and the af-mf pass button. Very practical and convenient application for desktop and mobile, for firmware updates and customization of the lens. Overall, however, I do not find any relevant defects, these are small things or personal preferences, at this rate Sony and Sigma will have a good competition, an extremely valid product from every point of view sent on January 11, 2026 |
