![]() | Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S Pros: Image quality, reach to 120mm, versatility, constant aperature, fast Cons: No image stabilization, but not really necessary with IBIS Opinion: I still have my 24-120mm f/4 G lens which sometimes takes a hit in reviews, but it has worked wonderfully for me in the past. I purchased the Z 24-70mm f/4 prior to the Z 24-120mm becoming available, and found that to be a wonderful lens for an f/4. However, this Z 24-120mm far surpasses those two lenses, in terms of image quality and usefulness. I have taken hundreds of photos with this lens and in many cases, the images required very little editing in post. My one minor worry with lenses such as these is that they can sometimes be a little too 'digital.' That is also an easy adjustment in post. I have used this lens primarily for landscape and as a true walking-around lens. I have used it occasionally for indoor shots, but I prefer to use my primes for those purposes. The customizable Control Ring and Fn button are also big pluses. From f/4 to f/8, the images sharpness and contrast are phenomenal. I used this lens for long-exposure waterfall photography, along with a filter, without any difficulty other than the sun being just a bit too bright on one occasion. I would highly recommend this lens as a first or kit lens over any others, if you are looking for a general purpose, walk-around, lens. I do not regret my purchase whatsoever. BTW, nice sunstars sometimes at f/8. sent on November 15, 2025 |
![]() | Nikon Z6 Pros: Dynamic range, low-light capabilities, ergonomics, life-like colors Cons: Battery life, EVF Sensor if not kept clean Opinion: Having owned my Nikon Z6 since its arrival back in 2018, I continue to marvel and appreciate the many positives of this camera for my needs. It's lightweight, the colors are gorgeous and I really appreciate its low light capabilities at slower shutter speeds while hand held. A large part of that is also due to the IBIS in the camera, versus my ability to hold the camera fairly still when needed. The 24.5 megapixels is adequate for my needs and is another reason for the good low-light photography. My main purpose for this camera is primarily for landscape, portrait, still life, etc., photography. There have been two small weddings I did photography for and although I am not a professional wedding photographer, both the new married couple and I were very happy with the images produced from the wedding. I have never used or tried the video features. It is a quiet camera when it needs to be, like when I am shooting wildlife or street photography. My Z6 fits nicely in my hands. In terms of image quality, I find it very good. The colors are very lifelike and true to the images I am shooting. Sometimes very little processing/editing is needed. This was/is my first and only mirrorless camera but I can also add that my F-mount lenses work well on this camera with the FTZ adapter. For three and one-half years, I continue to enjoy photography when I use my Z6. I would consider a Z6II before a Z7 but I am also interested in the Z8. sent on June 07, 2023 |
