![]() | Canon EOS M50 Pros: Dimensions, weight, articulated display Cons: ISO, 4K, lack of second ring, electronic shutter only in SCN mode Opinion: Given that I am not a professional, the judgment I will give on this machine is based only on my experience. As a happy owner of an m6II and some EF-M lenses (on all the fantastic Sigma 16mm, the Canon efm 22 and 32!), I wanted another light camera body to be placed side by side for the video side. At an attractive price and practically new(with less than 1000 shots) I found this m50. Starting from the positive sides, what is striking is the transportability: the machine is really compact; If you have no special needs and you like to run light this is the machine for you! With the 22 mm mounted it becomes pocket-sized and it seems to be in your hands a toy. Unfortunately this compactness is paid with the lack of a second ring that would certainly have been convenient. In any case, customizing the keys a little you take hand quickly and the files produced are rather sharp and workable; Already at low ISO begins to come out of the noise quietly correctable in post. Beyond ISO 1600 the noise is quite marked and begins to be difficult to manage. On the photographic side, one of the flaws found is the presence of the electronic shutter only in scn mode that does not allow any type of adjustment. I often find myself photographing in quiet environments and for me this is a big flaw; The dualpixel autofocus is pretty quick and accurate. The part that interested me the most and that made me make the decision to return it is the video one; Although the articulated display is really a great convenience, the videos produced leave something to be desired; 4K is virtually unusable: videos are heavily cropped; In some cases to shoot the scene you are forced to use a wide angle pushed .. if you then use digital stabilization you get to 1.75 crop; Moreover, inexplicably in this format the dual pixel autofocus does not work only with the contrast autofocus. If you shoot static subjects it can also be fine, but in motion the focus is often lost. Even the full hd did not seem to me of excellent quality; The videos are quite noisy even in non-extreme conditions and still have limitations if you want to shoot at high frame rates (the video can last up to 7 minutes). That said, even if the love for this camera has not blossomed, and perhaps my judgment has been influenced more by the automatisms I have on the other, in my opinion it is not a bad machine; It is in fact a machine without too many frills, suitable in my opinion for those who are approaching photography. sent on September 29, 2023 |
![]() | Patona Premium LP-E17 Pros: Cost; are detected by the camera Cons: Shorter life than originals Opinion: on Canon m6 mark II they have shorter life than the originals but still sufficient; The camera correctly detects its charging status. However, when you are at the second notch the machine is already almost empty. After about 2 years one of the 2 began to swell while still usable at the moment (sometimes I find it a bit difficult to get it out!). On the positive side, 2 batteries cost much less than an original Canon. To be honest it must be said that the original Canon ones after 2 years are still perfect. sent on December 07, 2022 |
![]() | Venus Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Pros: dimensions, weight, angle of view, build quality Cons: a little soft on the sides of the frame Opinion: Fully manual lens made of metal; very robust, compact and lightweight; fantastic for traveling and shooting with the camera around your neck: combined with the Canon M6 Mark II camera body yes and no you get to 600 grams! Crazy angle of view achievable on apsc without distortion only from the excellent but more bulky and heavier sigma 8-16. The only problem I encountered is a bit of biting on the sides of the frame even at apertures between f /5.6 f / 8 where I think the lens gives its best in sharpness. Although it is a fully manual lens, the focus is quite easy thanks to the focus peaking. For the use I make of it (photography in confined environments, urbex, travel) I am completely satisfied. If purchased for canon remember from the options to select the "release of the shutter without lens" otherwise the machine will not work: in fact, being a completely manual lens, it is not recognized by the camera. sent on December 17, 2021 |
![]() | Canon EOS M6 Mark II Pros: Small, lightweight, photo quality, build quality, discreet iso resistance, AF, burst Cons: few native M system optics; non-tilting screen not usable when mounted the viewfinder, autonomy Opinion: I state that I am not a professional. I have been using this machine for almost a couple of years and I must say that it made me replace my first and bulky 1200D without too many regrets. I wanted a car that didn't give much in the eye and comfortable to carry during my travels and explorations; I must say that paired with the 9 mm Laowa f/2.8 and the 22 mm Canon f/2 becomes perfect for this purpose: it practically looks like a compact. Although there are not many native Canon M lenses, there are several solutions from other manufacturers (Sigma Contemporary series on all) and through adapter you can use all EF lenses (including L series); every now and then I use it with the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 even if in this case, in my opinion, given the size of the barrel, you lose a bit the sense of having such a small camera body. The 32 megapixel sensor churns out excellent files with a decent level of detail (even in crop) and that I often use even without post producing; I noticed the presence of a little noise already at low iso, but nothing annoying. The files are easily usable up to iso 3200 with some small correction in post. Every now and then I also went up to iso 6400 still managing to use the photos. Nice idea of being able to extract the viewfinder and use the screen as if it were a smartphone; however, with the viewfinder mounted, the tilting screen is practically unusable. The autonomy of the battery does not make you cry out for a miracle: I usually always carry a couple of batteries behind me. Ultimately I am overjoyed and I recommend the purchase especially to those like me who love to turn light. sent on September 16, 2021 |
