Pros: Dimensions, weight, articulated display

Cons: ISO, 4K, lack of second ring, electronic shutter only in SCN mode

Opinion: Given that I am not a professional, the judgment I will give on this machine is based only on my experience. As a happy owner of an m6II and some EF-M lenses (on all the fantastic Sigma 16mm, the Canon efm 22 and 32!), I wanted another light camera body to be placed side by side for the video side. At an attractive price and practically new(with less than 1000 shots) I found this m50. Starting from the positive sides, what is striking is the transportability: the machine is really compact; If you have no special needs and you like to run light this is the machine for you! With the 22 mm mounted it becomes pocket-sized and it seems to be in your hands a toy. Unfortunately this compactness is paid with the lack of a second ring that would certainly have been convenient. In any case, customizing the keys a little you take hand quickly and the files produced are rather sharp and workable; Already at low ISO begins to come out of the noise quietly correctable in post. Beyond ISO 1600 the noise is quite marked and begins to be difficult to manage. On the photographic side, one of the flaws found is the presence of the electronic shutter only in scn mode that does not allow any type of adjustment. I often find myself photographing in quiet environments and for me this is a big flaw; The dualpixel autofocus is pretty quick and accurate. The part that interested me the most and that made me make the decision to return it is the video one; Although the articulated display is really a great convenience, the videos produced leave something to be desired; 4K is virtually unusable: videos are heavily cropped; In some cases to shoot the scene you are forced to use a wide angle pushed .. if you then use digital stabilization you get to 1.75 crop; Moreover, inexplicably in this format the dual pixel autofocus does not work only with the contrast autofocus. If you shoot static subjects it can also be fine, but in motion the focus is often lost. Even the full hd did not seem to me of excellent quality; The videos are quite noisy even in non-extreme conditions and still have limitations if you want to shoot at high frame rates (the video can last up to 7 minutes). That said, even if the love for this camera has not blossomed, and perhaps my judgment has been influenced more by the automatisms I have on the other, in my opinion it is not a bad machine; It is in fact a machine without too many frills, suitable in my opinion for those who are approaching photography.

Pros: Everything except the battery.

Cons: Battery life.

Opinion: I bought it a few weeks ago used with almost complete kit (14-45 / 22f2 / 55-200) to a nonsense, I do not understand why it was a bit 'denigrated, despite being an excellent mirrorless, is very compact, very light, has the articulated display, a very fluid viewfinder (perhaps a little' too contrasted), yes, it is not FF as everyone prefers, but this can also be a merit for an amateur photographer or for those who do trekking ... the ef-m lenses are then very easily found and with adapter, you have the entire Canon lens park with which you can have fun ... Highly recommended!

Pros: Compact, handy, ergonomic and leggera.AF precise, good image quality, adjustable touch screen, 100% vision

Cons: Battery life

Opinion: Light and practical about transportability. It is an APS-C and in performance it is comparable to the 80D. You get good quality files. It mounts the lenses of the M series, well built and lightweight, also through the EF-M adapter you can take advantage of the EF lenses, including the noble Canon L series lenses. Aware of owning an APS-C camera, my personal opinion towards this camera is more than positive, indeed excellent.

Pros: Lightweight, compact, handy, adjustable touch screen, fairly precise AF, good image quality for an APS-C

Cons: Battery (if kept screen on), unstable in settings, difficulty in the backlight

Opinion: She became my travel companion during most of my mountain outings (where keeping light is important, especially at my age), given her lightness accompanied by a decent quality of files that are obtained. It certainly doesn't achieve the quality of the more famous mirrorless R or Reflex D, but it does quite well considering that it is entry level camera. In addition to the very light M optics that allow a very low total weight, through the use of a special Canon EF/M adaptor you can use EF lenses while maintaining all the automatisms (to be taken into account that the output files are 1.6x since it is an APS-C camera). Of course, with EF optics it gains the quality of the image. One flaw I encountered is the settings, they change easily while using the camera without the operator noticing.

Pros: Value for money, weight, compactness, ergonomics, all the advantages of ML not present on relfex

Cons: An more ring would have been comfortable, 4k video.

Opinion: As far as it is expensive and compared to other cameras in the same range I consider it a good purchase. With the Ef lens adaptor you have access to the immense second-hand market, clearly with some of them you lose the balance, but I consider it a "non-problem" since the machine is not born intended for demanding professionals. The weight of the body alone is comparable to two smartphones, really light. Being very small it has the advantage of taking up little space in the backpack or bag. Now let's talk about ergonomics: I read everyone who makes a flaw out of it, but I have the impression that they have never tried other cameras with similar characteristics. I personally tried them all in a store and some of which I don't name literally slipped into my hand. With the m50 in my opinion you have the maximum with the same price and characteristics. If you have big hands you should consider buying a reflex or a larger mirrorless: if I were a man 2 meters tall, I wouldn't go and buy the fiat 500, but a bigger car, instead what I see are people 2 meters tall complaining about the fiat 500 which is too uncomfortable. I do not dwell on the other features such as af, focus peaking, customization of the evf, use of the screen as joystick, customization of the keys and all the news brought by ML in general. The crop of the 4k I consider it a big limit, if you want to take yourself back to make a vlog you necessarily need a wide angle a little pushed. Finally, I find key customization more flexible on this entry level than on R-series FF. Certain functions I had assigned to directional keys are not available in R-series that cost three times as much. This is a camera for those who do not want to give up interchangeable lenses, but want to have a quality not reachable from a smartphone and travel light. It's probably one of the best cameras for those who start with photography and don't want to spend a fortune.
