Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by DaveM_95

canon_6dCanon 6D

Pros: Dynamic range, high ISO sealing, ergonomics, construction, price, battery consumption, files, used price...

Cons: few MF points

Opinion: Coming from APS-C I could not fail to appreciate the beauty of the FF. A large and bright sensor that gives files already beautiful so, very little PP in some and only to adjust some areas maybe slightly over or underexposed. Beautiful colors, nice contrast. The thing that amazed me most is the tightness at very high ISO without showing noise (at 1600 ISO the file is perfectly usable, even in light conditions not excellent). Another point in its favor is the management of the backlight: I was impressed. I must say that I am enthusiastic about this machine and the few points of MF are actually a superfluous problem, when learning to use it. Now I have been using it for more than a year and I have also taken a lot of it, I have taken it on a trip, in the mountains and on a motorcycle, I have paired several lenses (even vintage) and I have practically never had disappointments. Needless to talk about the live view, the burst, the AF not very fast: it was not designed for dynamic use, but for a more reflective and contemplative one.

canon_35_f2isCanon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM

Pros: all

Cons: nothing in my opinion

Opinion: The best lens in my backpack. I used to use it on APS-C and now on 6D and I have always had a lot of satisfaction in both cases. On the FF gives, in my opinion, the best of itself because it is really wide, bright, very sharp. I use it for travel and trekking, it is not heavy and with the 6D it balances perfectly. The construction is solid and the AF is definitely fast enough. The blur is very pleasant and with a nice sharp contrast.

canon_50_f1-8stmCanon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Pros: Lightweight, compact, price, blur, sharpness

Cons: I can't find any... perhaps a slight aberration at TA

Opinion: Knowing that you are buying such a lens for a scarce hundred euros, I would say that the pros outweigh the cons. In any case, I bought it a few months ago and used it on several occasions with different lighting conditions. The result is always very satisfying, with sharp files, a very pleasant blur (clearly goes to taste) that guarantees an excellent detachment of the subject from the background. The key point is, in fact, to get used to the 50mm, especially if you come from a wide use of 35mm: it will be narrow, but not quite as a 70. But in doing so, he forced me to experiment and "study on it". I would say 9.5 deserved. Ah, I use it on a 6D Mk1, a great combination.

canon_800dCanon 800D

Pros: Good sensor, 24 Mpixels, 45 AF points, mobile touch screen, connectivity

Cons: Well nobody, for the kind of camera

Opinion: I owned it for more than a year, coming from many years of 500D. I bought it because my budget allowed me to upgrade to amateurs. I must say that I found myself very well: it has an excellent image rendering and its megapixels make the difference when cropping. The AF is not absolutely evil, it is obvious that it must be compared to its market segment, certainly not with a 7D II. If you know what you are buying, it is a great machine, never had anything to object to. Paired with the 24mm STM pancake or 35mm IS USM gave me a lot of satisfaction. I managed to shoot up to 6400 ISO without encountering annoying noise, eliminated in PP... beyond I have never pushed.
