sigma_12-24_v2Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 II DG HSM

Pros: Weight, Footprint, Build Quality, Sharpness

Cons: Whites are sometimes a bit shot.

Opinion: A few months ago I made money by selling a bit reluctantly the exceptional Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art, of which I was completely satisfied except for the weight and size (rightly, given the quality of the optics). After a while, however, I felt the lack of a wide-angle lens and so I decided to buy this lens (second-hand), also given the excellent reviews I had read. And in fact I can only confirm what others before me have written about this lens: the rendering in the landscape field amazed me, I really did not expect such sharp shots, in reality I thought that I would forever regret the quality and performance of the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. Furthermore, from the point of view of weight and size, this lens weighs 600gr (about 200 gr less than the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art) and is more compact, and this allows you to always carry it in your backpack. I was then satisfied with the color rendering, even if sometimes, in certain conditions, the whites are very strong and it is difficult to recover them in post production; but I got around this by using HDR mode or exposure bracketing. So, if you don't want to break the bank to buy the big brother and if you don't need to shoot at f2.8, this lens is definitely for you. My final rating, considering my needs as an amateur photographer, is an abundant 9.5.

nikon_z40_f2Nikon Z 40mm f/2

Pros: Size, performance, price

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: I had tried the 50mm 1.8 for Z, but I returned it, ok the PRO performance, but the price is definitely too high; For many, the photo is a hobby and we often have to settle for it if certain expenses are not possible in the family budget. Luckily I decided to try this 40mm f2 for Z: I was completely satisfied with the exceptional quality and yield of the shots. Considering the small size, as well as a negligible weight, this lens is now my favorite. I recommend everyone at least to try it.
