![]() | Canon EF 20-35mm f/2.8L Pros: Compact, excellent construction, sharp, color rendering, surprisingly fast and accurate AF despite its age Cons: Backlight, Minimum Focusing Distance, Vignetting Opinion: Bought used a year ago for just over 200€ and kept very well, I have read around positive and negative opinions, this is my experience. The first thing you notice when you pick it up is the compactness and robustness, the metal body and the internal zoom make you feel just like an L-series lens. At the same time, you can see that it has a "design" from times gone by, but it's that slightly vintage note that pleases. Used in combination with the 5DIV and the R (therefore very compatible with the latest Canon mirrorless), you get amazing results, in terms of sharpness (at f2.8 sharp in the center, but already closing at f4 it visually improves on the edges), speed and precision of the autofocus and color saturation. It suffers significantly from backlighting, flaring as if there were no tomorrow; So, it is imperative to have the lens hood even if it cannot work miracles. Vignette at f2.8 but I don't always see it as a flaw, it depends on the result you want to get from the photo. Finally, I would have preferred a shorter minimum focusing distance, but I don't make a big deal out of that. In conclusion, it is such a small and light lens that it always carries with it, great for day and night landscape photography (with some limitations). It is true that this lens has not been produced since 1996, but if it has arrived today in excellent condition (28 years), I believe that I will use it with satisfaction for a long time to come. sent on April 25, 2024 |
