![]() | Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Vario Tessar T* Pros: Sharpness TA, weight, used price, colors, sunstars, distortion correction, CA correction, some degree of weathersealing (?), ability to mount 72mm filter thread (without front blob!), OSS useful for handheld shot as low as 1/8 Cons: some softness at 35mm TA, restore to good levels when stop down to f8 Opinion: Coming from M43, where ultra wide angle zooms are a pain in the ass not only because of insane high price, but also insane amount of distortion which are of course corrected by software but still visible even after post production... eg the notorious 7-14 f2.8 PRO lens (f5.6 in equivalent FF DOF with a huge blob element that prohibits usage of screw-on filters) which is one reason I bought into Sony full frame system together with this lens. In my country the used price of this lens fluctuate between USD $430 to $600 used; about 750 usd new hence it is an absolutely bargain when you consider this optic is made to cover the FF imaging circle! Compact and lightweight (exact weight & dimension as the renowned Sony 35mm f1.4 GM) for an UWA zoom that starts with constant f4, when compare to the likes of Canon & Nikon which is larger and heavier. Solid cold metal build which feels great in hands but the paint can peel off easily after several years of usage. In term of optical quality, this one completely smoke its siblings the 2470ZA in sharpness department. It can sometimes make really nice sunstars when used in some situations but of course it won't be as nicer than say the Zeiss Loxia series or Voigtlander... But with the Sony ZA, one can always appreciate the convenience of shooting in AF ;) Highly recommended for landscape and interior shooter. sent on July 25, 2021 |
