Pros: Great value

Cons: non-tropicalized, noisy autofocus for video and has no internal focus

Opinion: I bought it a few months ago, new at an absolutely inviting promotional price (149 euros, thanks to Black Friday). The idea was to keep it for a while, waiting to replace it with the much more expensive Sonnar 55. In fact the performance turned out to be higher than expected and I don't think I'll change it anymore. It is an economic construction perspective - but at that price it is difficult to claim better - and it has the limits of the type of autofocus and the lack of tropicalization. But apart from these aspects, optically it is much better than I expected and what I had read in various reviews where it almost seems like a bottle bottom. It doesn't really work out to me! Even the AF, downloading the latest firmware of the Sony A7 III, is suitable for most situations, except for action photos, and is very accurate in almost 100% of cases. The sharpness is very good in the center from the maximum openings. The edges are discrete to TA, good at f.2.8 and become great from f.5.6. But this is noted in monitors going to analyze the high magnification image. In inkject prints the differences appear negligible, when you can also notice (two A4 prints with many fine details, one at f.2 and the other at f.8, appear more or less identical). The chromatic aberrations are also very correct. Ultimately, a lightweight lens, great for journeys and portraits set and providing photos of virtually indistinguishable quality compared to far more expensive optics.
