![]() | Nikon D500 Pros: AF speed, materials, overall quality Cons: Maybe the live view? Opinion: I wanted to wait about 8 months from the purchase (and many motorsport events) before reviewing the D500 and now I can say that it is really a jewel. Even in the most complex / unexpected situations the AF is precise and fast, resulting in perfectly focused images with full-bodied colors and shadows that are never noisy. The ergonomics of the camera body is excellent and all the keys you need are there right where you need them. The monitor has an adequate touchscreen sensitivity, as well as the resolution. The only flaw, perhaps, is the live view not really up to par (quite slow) but at least in my case it is never a problem as I always shoot from the eyepiece. Despite not having an FF sensor, the images still enjoy limited noise compared to other Nikon APSCs, coupled with bright lenses the noise practically zero. Ultimately I am really satisfied with the purchase, so much so that I am thinking of buying an additional D500 as a second camera body. I believe that even in 2023 the D500 is the best compromise that can be purchased for sports photos in case you do not want or can switch to better but more expensive flagships. sent on July 15, 2023 |
![]() | Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sport Pros: Value for money, MF speed, sharpness. Cons: Loses if you shoot subjects at a distance, unusable with teleconverter. Opinion: I bought this canvas in May 2022 used but in like new condition (about 50ina of shots), and in recent months I have used it several times to shoot at motorsport events on the track. After a short period necessary to take the hand, I consider myself really satisfied with the purchase! The tele is bright, of excellent workmanship and with a really fast focus, very comfortable your configurable keys (upon purchase of the USB base not included). The tele is not excessively heavy or bulky, the only real problem I found in conjunction with the teleconverter Sigma TC-2001, beyond the low-light photographs (which I was aware of before buying the TC) the focus goes into crisis 8 times out of 10 making the TC useless. For the record, I do not have other Sigma lenses so at this moment it is difficult for me to understand if the problem is the CT or the tele. Ultimately I am happy with the purchase, I recommend it to anyone who wants a well-made canvas, always ready to use and bright but who does not want to spend more than 1500 euros. sent on December 26, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon D7100 Pros: Material quality, ergonomics, image rendering, versatility, ease of use, double SD slot Cons: Buffer, ISO seal Opinion: Since 2014 I use the D7100 to photograph in motorsport (I shot in both normal and external conditions, such as frost, heavy rain, fog and so on). The camera is really very good, the ergonomics in my opinion is studied well and allows you to have a solid grip on the camera, the settings keys are reachable "by heart" very easily. The materials used are medium/high and befitting the price and usage range in which this camera was sold. Very convenient the configurable double SD slot (raw salting target, raw , jpg, video etc.). After 5 years and with about 150 thousand shots the battery still holds the charge without problems, the sensor instead lost 10% of the original quality. Despite being my first "real" camera, I had no problem learning how to use it, with intuitive menus and commands and fast setting. Buffer not up to the camera, the type of photo I take weighs in raw between 25 and 40MB, the buffer manages to store 5 photos and this on the track is a big limit! The ISO seal in low light is not excellent but you can live with it if you are shot mainly during the day. This camera fears the humidity you try not to expose it directly to rain, otherwise it could get damaged quickly. In any case it is a great camera that I recommend to all people who want a product that is much higher than entry level, without spending too high figures for FF. sent on November 24, 2019 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Pros: Low price, range of use, ease of use, convenience of use. Cons: Considering it's a lens "KIT" no cons! Opinion: Like so many I bought this lens in the kit along with the body machine D7100. It is not a perfect goal, however considering that it is often the first lens that is used I would say that it does its job well! From 120 to 140mm it is not very bright and suffers from vignette but in an acceptable way. The value for money is very good. I would like to recommend it to all those who are looking for a handyman without a precise and defined need and without wanting to spend too high figures, surely you will be satisfied! sent on November 24, 2019 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR Pros: Versatility, lightness in relation to the type of lens. Cons: AF slow/which freezes often, unsatisfactory sharpness from 250 to 300mm, medium/low quality of materials. Opinion: I have been using this 70-300 on Nikon D7100 for several years for motorsport photographs in racetracks. Overall it is not a bad product, however the very slow AF left me quite disappointed, it often hangs (2-3 seconds of stall) during focus and this is clearly a big problem if you shoot with moving subjects. The sharpest range ranges from 70 to 200mm, from 200 to 250 is decent and from 250 to 300 is not good. The materials used in my opinion are of medium/low quality, but still acceptable for the price range proposed at the time. The lens is not very bright, but this is normal given the maximum aperture of the diaphragm. Ultimately, I don't recommend this lens to those who shoot with moving subjects. sent on November 24, 2019 |
![]() | Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX Pros: Brightness, value for money, field angle, material quality, sharpness. Cons: Inconvenient zoom dial if with "rest" lampshade Opinion: I have been using this lens on Nikon D7100 for three years and I must say that I am satisfied! Overall the AF is quite fast, the building materials are good and it is very bright. The switch from AF to MF is simple but perhaps slightly cumbersome, once every ten steps the dial struggles to gear. The only con that I often encounter (not serious) is the difficulty in using the zoom dial as the lampshade is in a resting position towards the body of the camera, I almost always use a polarizer and sometimes it is inconvenient to find the lampshade that blocks the movement of the hands. I would say a great choice depending on the value for money and I recommend it to everyone! I recommend the paired lens - 82mm filter. sent on November 24, 2019 |
