fujifilm_35mmFujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R

Pros: Bright, spectacular bokeh, unquantifiable color and image rendering

Cons: slow autofocus and difficulty in AFC

Opinion: It took me some time to really appreciate this lens. Or rather, his qualities – almost lunar – were clear to me right away. But perhaps, thanks to my inexperience with this focal length, I have been tempted several times to move on to something else. Also because the autofocus, let's face it, is certainly not its strong point: often uncertain, sometimes frustrating. At first, this led me to delete almost half of the shots I took. But in hindsight, the problem wasn't the lens. It was me. I didn't understand it yet, I hadn't yet found the right approach. Then, over time, learning to recognize its qualities and accepting its idiosyncrasies, I changed the way I photographed. I filed some of my arrogant pretensions, learning to leave more space for the lens... and less to control. In the last year I have begun to see – and above all feel – what makes this lens truly unique: the ability to transform small imperfections into original visual qualities, difficult to describe with the usual technical terms we are used to when talking about optics. There is something that escapes rationality. Sometimes, it seems that he is the one who decides when to shoot for real, giving images out of time: dreamy, emotional shots, full of a three-dimensionality that comes out of the screen. Even a simple portrait can become unrepeatable, with creamy blurs and subjects that seem to emerge from the frame with a strength all their own. It is a magical lens, capable of generating ethereal images, with incredible colors. If a shot already looks perfect in PROVIA, with CLASSIC CHROME it becomes iconic, with a visual impact that goes beyond the composition, beyond the technique. It is, perhaps, the perfect lens to tell the growth of a family, of one's children: following them through time with this lens means choosing an intimate and authentic gaze, capable of restoring pure emotion.

fujifilm_18-55oisFujifilm XF 18-55 f/2.8-4R LM OIS

Pros: Size, construction, stabilizer, very good overall optical quality...

Cons: ... But with clear limits in sharpness wide aperture, distortion and evident vignetting at 18mm, the price in used cars is going up.

Opinion: Lens for price and exceptional target. It was my first Fuji system lens and I sold it to switch to a fixed, but in hindsight I regretted it. Because although it does not have the quality of a fixed lens, it has other qualities that make it a reliable lens that finds its space within a set: excellent construction, sharpness in intermediate focal lengths, it is an excellent solution for those who want to make videos thanks to the fast and silent autofocus. Those who learn to handle it by understanding its limits can only have an all-rounder lens that will give satisfaction. Lately it occurred to me to look for it used, and I noticed that prices have risen, once you could find it at 200/250€, while now in a month of research I have not been able to find decent lenses at less than 350€ and for this price, as far as I'm concerned, more interesting solutions open up, that is, the 16-55 2.8 Mark I which is seeing a drop in price in the used market due to the release of the Mark II, and is currently also used at € 500/550. But going back to the 18-55, definitely a lens that if found at a good price is an excellence.
