viltrox_af13_f1-4Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4

Pros: Sharpness, build quality, brightness, autofocus

Cons: Not tropicalized, lack of optical stabilization, vignetting at the edges more or less visible to all diaphragms.

Opinion: My opinion is related to the version for Fuji X. Impressive value for money. The perception of the build quality is clear, even higher than that of some Fuji lenses, where it beats them all (I think) for the excellent all-metal hood. If we really wanted to find a defect in this sector we could attribute it to the focus ring that offers a resistance to the limit of too much smoothness, but which is still well manageable. Fantastic the ring of the apertures all indicated on the lens (Fuji, would it cost you so much to do the same?) that offers optimal resistance and a clear and safe feeling of the shot at the change of stop. The sharpness is definitely the ace up the sleeve of this fabulous lens, sharpness that is maintained from the center to the edges even at full aperture (there is a very slight loss at f1.4 visible only with strong magnifications). Another interesting prerogative is the minimum focusing distance that also drops the under 22mm declared. There is, for lovers of the genre, an interesting bokeh effect, even if the focal length imposes very narrow shooting points to obtain the best result, which could limit the use of the effect in portraits. Fast, silent and precise autofocus even in the absence of strong contrasts. Optical stabilization is missing, which is a small limit for those who, like me, do not have the stabilizer in the car. As far as I am concerned, I photograph mainly with tripod or in light conditions that allow me to use safety times. I can also thank you that at f1.4 you need very little light to be able to shoot safely. It's not WR, but almost not all of my lenses are and I've never had any trouble photographing, taking some precautions, from ice to deserts. There is a slight vignetting on all apertures (quite noticeable at f1.4), but in digital photography this is not a problem, unless you shoot directly in jpeg, in which case you will have to take this factor into account. I think we can argue with good certainty that this lens offers the image quality of a Fuji at double cost. Truly surprising lens that, in my opinion, can worthily replace the first Fuji lenses of similar focal lengths.

rollei_lion_rock_head20Rollei Lion Rock Head 20

Pros: Fluidity Solidity

Cons: Bulk weight

Opinion: Extremely solid looking head, which you probably pay in terms of weight not really feather. Excellent fluidity of both the sphere and the panoramic movement, both adjustable in friction. Present the bubbles on the three axes. The quick (screw) coupling system has a safety button that allows loosening for adjustment on the horizontal axis, but that does not allow the detachment of the plate that can only take place by pressing and unscrewed further. Compared to lever release systems this offers much greater safety, especially if you wanted to move without disassembling the machine from the tripod. The 20 in the name stands for 20 kg of supported weight.

rollei_lion_rock20tripodRollei Lion Rock 20 Tripod

Pros: Solidity Robustness Lightness Transportability

Cons: Non-reversible legs to further reduce the footprint with the head mounted.

Opinion: Tripods among the most solid I've ever seen among those of this size. Impeccably built leaves no room for too many frills to focus on substance. The impression when positioned is that of granite stability, also thanks to the 90° inclined tips that are stuck in any type of soil. Supplied with rubber caps (including replacement ones) for use on hard surfaces. The head plate can be removed both to remove the central column and to change the head attachment which can be both 3/8" and 1/4". With the easel are provided brugola keys, spare rubber caps, a bubble, an excellent carry-on bag, a retina carrying objects to spread between the legs and the manual.

manfrotto_mt290dua3Manfrotto MT 290 DUA3

Pros: Versatility and robustness.

Cons: Weight and transportability.

Opinion: Great easel that I bought in kit offer with the three-way head. Compared to my old aluminum Slik it is enormously more stable, versatile and robust. All gifts, however, that are paid in terms of footprint and weight. So if you are looking for an easel to take on long journeys, maybe not too well off, then I do not think it is the right choice, but for all the other occasions I aim really good. The ability to flip the middle column horizontally makes it great for those who try with macros and still life. By widening your legs and tipping the column you can bring the lens up to ground satin. I think it's an easel that can meet all the needs of an amateur photographer.
