Fujifilm X-T3 Pros: User experience, build quality, availability of optics Cons: Inaccurate focus, raw processing, inability to save white balance settings in recipes, unripe peak focus Opinion: Taken after almost 5 years of use of the previous X-T2, in the hope of seeing the defects solved (at least in part) especially in focus, before giving up and changing the system entirely. Used for just 6 months, just over 3000 shots taken, and I can only say that the two cameras are partly equivalent. The improvements are few, at least for my exclusively amateur photo use: a greater operating speed, longer battery life, a few grams less weight, more focus points. However, the same defects that had led me to give up the X-T2 remain: the focus is inaccurate, the viewfinder is decidedly poor, it is still not possible to save the white balance together with the various recipes, RAF files with not immediate development and the presence of annoying patterns in the jpgs. I would add that, in the use of manual focus, the peak focus (customizable) is highly inaccurate and displays a focus range that is far too wide, which also leads to too many out-of-focus photos (well over half). Disappointed with the two bodies of the X-T series, I eventually switched to a completely different system. sent on 13 Maggio 2026 |

Fujifilm X-T2 Pros: User experience, customization, build quality, qualitatively valid optics also available from third parties Cons: Inaccurate focusing, cumbersome setup, inability to save white balance in recipes, not immediate RAF development and dubious results Opinion: I had taken it for two reasons in 2019, and it was love at first sight. I came from a 5DII with 4 kg of equipment on my shoulders, and I wanted to finally lighten up. But not only that: I was also looking for a shooting experience with a vintage, different flavor. As soon as I had it in my hand in the store, I fell in love with it instantly. And practical use confirmed almost everything. Once you get the hang of it, the dials are just amazing. The customizations are endless: you can adapt this machine to any need. The extreme possibility of customization, however, is also a small con because to find the right settings (I don't say perfect, just right) it takes a long, long time and many experiments. In addition, at the beginning I also struggled to find a good all-rounder: I tried the 18-135 and the 16-55 first version, the second decidedly superior (and I would like to see...) but far from being excellent. Among the fixed lenses, however, the only lens that really satisfied me was the 56 1.2 (not WR). The rest, a push and pull between acceptability and definition not at the top. Among everything, however, there is one thing that I found absurd: with all the possible options to simulate film and JPG recipes in the camera (Fuji's strength, or at least one of the strengths), it is not possible to save the white balance. Each time it must be changed by hand. I find it a crazy choice. But the real problem – the one that made me give up this body after 5 years (2 of which of intense use) – was the focus. Inaccurate. In any mode, in any light. To the point that 4 out of 10 photos were out of focus. For me, unacceptable. What about RAF files? They are not very immediate to develop, but you get the hang of it. Among the defects, I must say that I have always noticed a recovery of the highlights that is not up to par (but you just need to get to know the camera and with the right shooting settings the problem is solved), but the most annoying thing is that in the JPGs there are annoying patterns in the dark areas (even if the raw are processed with Capture One): on the screen they are intrusive, in print almost invisible. But they are there. In the end I had found a good workflow with the open source Ansel to file the problem, but even there... I lost count of how many tests I did. After almost 20000 shots, the truth is that this machine (like the entire X-Tx series) offers an experience unlike any other. Certainly unique, I would call it more than anything else "passionate", and if well set up it strains already excellent files without the need for retouching. But it also has major flaws, and if you want to keep it, you have to learn to come to terms with them. sent on 11 Maggio 2026 |
