Pros: Compact, light, articulated screen, excellent video files.

Cons: Obnoxious shutter lag, single autofocus that gets it wrong. Small and useful viewfinder only to raise the price.

Opinion: It had been years since I had tried a camera for so long and I was so annoyed by it. I've had 6 other Sonys, but this is the only one I've had so bad a problem with that it doesn't affect my work, and I almost always photograph motionless objects. I took it as a second backup body to an A7R3, for undemanding work, and it was supposed to act as a light and compact tourist car. It is light and compact, but the merits end there. It has a shutter lag of 17 cents (without autofocus, just by pressing the button), enough to make you get the wrong photos if you want to capture the moment. Pressing halfway focuses, pressing completely re-focuses again. I've tried every combination, autofocus, even AFC unplugged from the shutter button, but it always sucks. And my references start from an RX100 or A7. But the worst thing is that even with "focus priority" in a single shot, one-two-five photos out of every 100 come out of focus. Easy photos, like photographing pages of a book on an easel in the sun, or people at the beach under the summer sun. With different goals. It had been 10 years since I had such a poor car. I updated the review after trying another one, and it sucks like the first one.

fujifilm_35mmFujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R

Pros: It's made of metal, it blures, it's on fire, it's bright and it costs a little bit and it does what you'd expect

Cons: Aberrant, it's slow, it makes noise, it looks like a 50 but it's not, but it's cluttered the same.

Opinion: It has pros and cons. I only used it a year for laziness, each time it bothered me but I liked it as an idea and gave it confidence. It's slow and noisy, it would like to make the 50 but you realize something is missing, it doesn't have such a soft blur, yet it weighs just as much. It is pleasant to handle, solid metal. If it were lighter, cheaper and more compact, however, it would make more sense.

Pros: Small, pocket-sized, fast, practical. Bright, great file quality (except HFR video). Battery always the same as other Sony. Flash sled, tiltable screen to taste.

Cons: Small battery. Un practiced grip. The flash's missing. Bad High Frame Rate videos. Awkward menu like all sony. Price.

Opinion: Great car, really. I chosen it after I had an RX100-2, because I can use it for videos. Both are in the pocket of the jacket but also of trousers, ideal to always have with you. Very very good file quality, although I don't see any big changes in these years between the two. This, however, with a bright lens, works better even with little light. Great 4K 25p or 100p (100Mbps) regular frame rate videos. It can resume in HD up to 1000fps although for a few seconds (about 3 then the buffer is filled), but the quality is poor, seriously insufficient. Posable monitor, finally. The tilting ones were useless for vertical shots. I don't find them flawed. Built-in ND filter, to blur in videos. The battery is the same as all the other little Sony, so cheap and easily located, I used the previous ones. It needs fast cards. It doesn't have flash, but you can add exteriors. It doesn't have a ring around the lens like the RX100, which was still very uncomfortable and very long. The zoom comes out every time it turns on and off, not suitable for Bressons who want to seize the moment. The only flaws may be the somewhat sacrificed ergonomics of grip and keys that are too small, but the size makes up for it. The quality of HFR videos, the terrible menu like all Sony, has abbreviations that look like MS-DOS; really bad UX, ten years of iphone didn't teach anything? High price, in 2021 it is located on 700 euros or a little less, however better than the 1200 of the latest similar RX100.

Pros: Small and light to always take with you. Complete with all the functions that can serve; Sony batteries compatible with all other small cameras; excellent file quality; attack for external flashes or triggers.

Cons: The screen so articulated is 50% useless. No macros. Other downsides are small secondary annoyances: slippery grip, small keys, poor battery, ring around the uncomfortable zoom.

Opinion: Small light and quality. Of all the tourist ones I've had this is perhaps the best and most complete. Pocket (literally), you can carry without feeling the weight. I preferred fixed lenses without electric zooms, ready to use, but this is practical enough to use and complete, 28-100mm with which to do everything but blur. The ring around the zoom is uncomfortable, long, a lark mirror, a wheel with clicks would have been better. It has all the functions normally needed, and files of excellent quality (raw, I never shoot in Jpg). Fast enough in all operations, except that it is not instantaneous to turn on to shoot and seize the moment; autofocus is more than valid, responsive. It doesn't macro. Perhaps with the wide angle at 5cm, but with the extended zoom (100mm equivalent) it focuss 55cm from the lens; understandable for Zeiss, but the compacts had accustomed us to exaggerate with close super-mega-macros. I don't miss a viewfinder (I already get enough crap from the various Sony A7s), but the tipper screen is useless for those who shoot vertically, it would almost have been better fixed and more compact. Very good raw, like the other Sony; as quality and colors can be used close to those of larger and more expensive machines without problems, if not for the different depth of field. Sufficient built-in flash, but you can use it externally, even with triggers; unfortunately it's the only RX100 like that. . Small keys, not practical. Meh handle... slippery. But with this size I don't ask for more, that's fine. I've never made videos, I've never taken jpg. In general, given the size and enduring the small inconveniences deriving and necessary, review more than positive especially for the very affordable price compared to the quality. I couldn't say the same (price-quality) as subsequent models, especially the latest.
