Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by MarcelSmit

canon_40dCanon 40D

Pros: Build quality is just amazing. Ergonomics just superb. Speed per frame not the fastest compared to ML cams but for me, it will do the job and I think for 99% of the people it will! Second hand prices are a no brainer in 2024.

Cons: For me none. But I am old, just as the cams I shoot my stuff with.... ISO settings above 800 will cause significant noise but in B&W I do not consider that a real problem as I shoot in RAW only, so post-processing through DPP4 or Adobe Photoshop7.0 ( or another photo editing program) still can produce some nice pictures.

Opinion: Without repeating myself, in my opinion this is one of the best cameras Canon has ever produced. The build quality, ergonomics and especially the color reproduction are top class. Just look at the photos taken here in the 40D section. Maybe my eyes are getting to old for pixel peeping, but personally I don't see much difference between shots taken with a 5D FF or a 40D at "normal" magnification. For a beginner who is just starting to learn how to take photos with a DSLR (perhaps outdated in a few years), an absolute bargain these days. Just buy a 2nd hand 40d between €50 - €100, an EF-s 24mm and/or an EF 50mm 1.8 STM and you're good to go! In short... seasoned photographer don't sell your 40d! In short...beginner photographer...just buy a 40d, it won't dissappoint you! Just scroll below to see the magnificent photo's!!
