![]() | Canon RF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM Pros: Image quality, focusing speed Cons: Inadequate quality of materials, noisy Opinion: I took this lens to have a good all-rounder on my new EOS R6 Mark II. Premise: all the other Canon lenses I have are excellent EF L-series lenses (135 f/2L USM, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II IS USM, 16-35 f/4L IS USM). I'll start with the cons: The build quality of the RF 24-105 f/4L is not even close to that of the EFs in my possession, the plastic looks (I emphasize "seems") really poor, touching it with your nails scratches form, which then disappear by running your finger, or wiping it with a cloth. It is not a good feeling, it does not give the perception of a solid lens at all, far from it. It is a somewhat noisy lens, carrying it you can hear internal noises, like something "dancing" inside it. There is no window with the distance scale, I think this is a bit like this on all RFs, it is not a drama, especially for this type of lens, also considering that on the 6DII the value of the current focal length can be activated on the display and viewfinder, but it is something I am used to, on the 100-400 for example I use it often. The selectors are small and hard to operate, quite inconvenient. The stabilizer does its job. Positives: the quality and colors of the images produced is really excellent, considering that it is an all-rounder lens. Excellent sharpness. Lightning-fast and precise focusing. The focal range is very comfortable, the front mount, fortunately, is 77mm, so, if needed, I can use ND and polarizer that I already own. All in all, it is an optics that does its duty. Unfortunately, I don't find the price to be in line with the whole thing, because the build quality, I repeat, is really not up to the level of the L series. sent on May 26, 2025 |
![]() | Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro Pros: Sharpness, robustness, focus Cons: Focus ring accumulates dirt, uncomfortable cap Opinion: I bought this lens after seeing its potential on the net. At the moment I took a few pictures of it but it has already fully convinced me. I come from a Canon 100 f/2.8L Macro IS USM and in the past I have also used other emblazoned lenses. In macro photography, at least as far as I'm concerned, I find the pluses such as stabilization and autofocus completely superfluous, fundamental instead sharpness, resolution and control of manual focus, and this Irix is satisfying me in these aspects. It is a well-built, solid, sturdy lens, the ring is perfect and the hood does its job. A very good case is provided. What struck me most, is the focus ring: fluid, very long stroke and adjustable in hardness. This, as mentioned by others, allows a very precise control of the fire, often making the use of the micrometric slide superfluous. The step from the ratio 1:1 to 1:2 is really long. The same ring that strikes me positively, however, also affects me in part negatively. The plastic used, very soft, provides excellent grip, but accumulates a lot of dirt. After a few minutes of use I realize that it is full of halos due to the dust that "sticks" on the surface, so I am forced to use a cloth to clean it before storing it in the backpack or in its case. It is fussiness, but I would like to make it clear. Another thing I didn't like is the front cap. Really very uncomfortable the shape and position of the closing clips, so much so that I replaced it with a cap of a few euros. sent on July 09, 2022 |
