nikon_d7100Nikon D7100

Pros: Size, construction, viewfinder, autofocus, burst, internal AF motor that allows you to use AF-D lenses

Cons: Buffer, ISO key

Opinion: I have the machine for 5 months and I tested it in almost all possible areas (except in night photography, so for the opinion on the ISO and AF in low light I will update in the future). Coming from d5300 (and then from any other entry level) what you notice right away is ergonomics, much more professional in comparison. In Hand is wonderfully, I would say better than the latest Sony A7/A9 having tried; It is solid, tropicalized (although I have never exposed it to rain or miscellaneous stuff) and well built. The viewfinder is much better than the entry level, larger and brighter, with pentaprism and coverage of 100 percent. Very comfortable display on the top on the right and also the function that allows you to illuminate it for low light conditions. Customization menu not excellent but still good, with which I associated with a key near the bayonet the very useful 1.3 x crop in addition. The autofocus is great (if I'm not mistaken for D4, although perhaps not with the same potential), chases moving subjects perfectly with AF-C + 3d tracking and is also comfortable to use in single AF with the joystick of the menu. Never tried Auto AF. The burst of 6 fps is very good, pity for ill buffer of only 6 shots that makes it jam right away (problem that resolves with a fast SD and not clicking for more than a second). The only thing EXTREMELY annoying is the position of the ISO key, which can not be associated with another key and obliges the use of the left hand, HATEFUL when using heavy telephoto lenses (in my case when I do wildlife) where you would not want to force The bayonet. Extremely recommended to all those who come from the series D3/5xxx, Rating: 9

nikon_85_f1-4dNikon AF 85mm f/1.4 D

Pros: Dimensions and weight, materials, colors and tones, sharpness, lens hood, blurred

Cons: Flare, Lens hood, sometimes autofocus

Opinion: I state that I make this lens an unprofessional use, my opinion is amateur. I received the lens on loan from a friend and the horsemanship on d7100, which maybe is not even the ideal body. What you notice right away are the size and weight (having tried before 85 1.4 GM I was amazed), and also the construction, really excellent with excellent materials. The lens hood is a metal and in the moment of use I like it very much (aesthetically, for vintage taste), but it is really annoying not to screw it upside down and therefore have to carry it separately. The colors I like very, soft and with the contrast not exaggerated (which is good for me). One of the most important parameters, being a lens specifically for portrait is the sharpness to TA (personally I use it only at full aperture, at the limit to 1.6), and it is very good, maybe not exactly equal to the G brother (which I have not tried) but as far as I am concerned is great . At the edges it drops slightly, but honestly I never happened to place the model at the corners or edges, so the "problem" (not reached) for me is irrelevant. The blur is really amazing, and it creates an almost fairytale tone along with the soft colors that it churn out. The autofocus will not be worthy of a 600mm, but since it is a portrait lens does not serve the instantaneous speed (in any case it is fast enough to focus, but also depends on the body that you use since it works Colo AF motor of the reflex). What is most important, in my opinion, is the accuracy of AF when making portraits, and this is all. Some photos not perfectly in focus is coming in stark backlight, but very few and still does not pose a problem since for each pose shot several photos. Finally it is quite prone to flare, but perhaps the problem concerns me more personally since I mite portraits only in backlight, but I think it is normal being a lens that is more than 30 years old. Not having tried the G I do not know if it is worth the 400 euros more, but certainly buying this will not make a wrong choice. Rating: 9

tamron_17-50Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD

Pros: Aperture 2.8 on all focal, center sharpness, blurry, size, price

Cons: Autofocus, Weight

Opinion: I recently purchased this lens to replace it with the AF-P 18-55 Kit on d7100, and I used it for street, landscape and a ceremony. Having 2.8 on the whole (gorgeous) focal length is really comfortable, and also allows you to bring only one lens, such as in ceremonies. (with the kit I was forced to use the 35 1.8, which still remains superior to the Tammy too). The fuzzy is nice, soft, and the sharpness in the center is very good, even at TA, although personally I never get out under f/3.2. The sore notes are, alas, the autofocus, far below the AF-P 18-55 (which is very fast and silent) and which in some cases forces to use the center point and block the AF. Despite the size we are not gigantic, the weight is very felt, so that I think it is absolutely unsuitable for street since (at least with d7100) it is impossible to use it with one hand for more than a few seconds. Finally, the sharpness at the corners is something terrible at 17 mm, and does not solve even closing the diaphragm (so little sharp that seems to move), but fortunately is limited right at the corners the problem. In conclusion, in my opinion, the judgement is more than positive. Despite the difficulties due to autofocus (which is the major problem) you bring home results far superior to a lens kit, just do more shots each time you are sure you have the result. Looking at the photos on the PC you immediately realize that it is another planet compared to 18-55, and I think it is worth buying (perhaps more used than new) to replace it to 18-55. However for the portrait, if possible, it always remains better a fixed lens (I use the 35 1.8) that at F2 is better (AF, blurry, sharpness) than the Tammy.

nikon_afs55-200vr_iiNikon AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6 G VR II

Pros: Size, weight, focal length, VR,

Cons: Sharpness, autofocus, plastic bayonet, lens hood

Opinion: I have this lens for a year and I horsemanship it on d5300. For the use that I do it all in all is not bad, having bought in discount at €150. Thanks to the release button when you put in the bag reaches a really compact size for a telephoto lens, little bigger than the kit 18-55. Another advantage is the focal length, which, for the price, associated with the kit lens covers from 18 to 200. Finally, the thing that I appreciate most is the VR, which allows you to shoot with really slow times without moving, even up to 1/30 to 200mm. Passing to the sore notes, one immediately notices the low quality of construction (all in plastic, also the bayonet) and the absence of the lens hood. By shooting at full aperture, as it is normal that you do not being a bright lens, the results are not exceptional but not even so negative. The most serious thing is the autofocus, noisy and very slow to hook the subject and during the tracking (eg shooting birds). In conclusion, I recommend this lens to all those spending little are looking for this focal length (essential to start photographing) without excessive demands.
